This is what we will be making

 

SUPPLIES:

Paint Shop Pro - any version Download Demo here

Florals 2 Dingbat Font here Open and minimize for later use

Preset Shape Tool - Ellipse

 

File>New Image - 500 X 500 Pixels, Transparent unless you want a color background, your choice

 

Brim and Stitching

Preset Shape Tool - Ellipse, Foreground null, Background color of choice or a background fill

Create as Vector, Anti-alias

 

Draw out a circle, Objects>Align>Center in Canvas

 

Layers>Convert to Raster Layer

 

Preset Shape Tool - Ellipse, Foreground contrasting/complimentary color

Background null, Style Arrowheads 0, width around 2 (this will be the stitching)

 

Draw this out, Object>Align>Center in Canvas... you may have to pull the handles to get the fit

Once your happy with the fit, Layers>Convert to Raster Layer

 

Selection Tool>Rectangle>Feather 0 (zero), Anti-alias checked

Draw out a section at the top of the hat, then hit delete . Be sure to do this to both layers!

 

Selections>Select None

 

Highlight the Sun Hat layer - Effects>Texture Effects>Weave, add some weave

 

Close off the very bottom layer - Layers>Merge>Merge Visible

 

Top of Hat

Preset Shape Tool - Ellipse, Foreground null, Background color of choice or background fill

 

Draw out a smaller circle to make the top

 

Apply same Texture effect as before

 

Decorate like you want

 

Decorations

I used a plants font for the leaves and added a drop shadow to all of them

I then used the Flower 4 preset shape for the flowers making them the size I needed

 
Effects>3D Effects>Drop Shadow - Suggested settings: Vertical - 1, Horizontal - 0 (zero), Opacity - 30, Blur - 3

Preset Shape - Ellipse draw out the center of the flowers, and add a little noise 10- 15

Apply same Drop Shadow as above

Text Tool - Florals 2 to get the curly bit coming out of the side of the hat

Layers>Merge>Merge Visible

 

Add a drop shadow using EC3 or your favorite drop shadow. And you're done!!
