You will need:
Paint Shop Pro - any version (PSP 9 is my fave version) - Download Demo here
Eye Candy 5: Textures - Download Demo here
A general knowledge of the tools - Preset Shapes, Pen Tool
File>New Image - 800 X 800 Pixels (I like plenty of room), Transparent or background color of choice
Click on Preset Shape Tool - Ellipse (circle), Create as Vector, Solid line style, Width at 7.00
Materials Palette - Foreground at Black #000000, Background at color of your choice, I'm using #95634F
BODY
Draw out a small circle the size you want your body bit to be
Layers>Convert to Raster Layer
Layers>Duplicate - do this until you have something like this:
**Don't be alarmed if you don't have a white background. I like to use a solid color when I work in PSP**
Layers>Merge>Merge Visible
Effects>Plugins>Alien Skin 5 Textures: Animal Fur with the following setting:
Pattern-Original
EYES
Preset Shape Tool - Ellipse, Foreground null, Background white #FFFFFF
Draw out to the size you want and position it
Layers>Convert to Raster Layer
INNER BEVEL SETTING
Layers>Duplicate and position where you want
PUPIL
Preset Shape Tool - Ellipse, Foreground null, Background black #000000
Draw out a small circle for the pupil, position, Layers>Convert to Raster Layer
Use same inner bevel as above, Layers/Merge/Merge Down, Layers>Duplicate
and position where you like
NOSE
Preset Shape Tool - Ellipse, Foreground null, Background black #000000
Draw out a circle, position, Layers>Convert to Raster Layer, use same inner bevel as above
MOUTH
Pen Tool - Line Style solid, width 9-10, Foreground black #000000, Background null, draw out a mouth
TONGUE
Preset Shape Tool- Ellipse, Foreground null, Background #E6748C
Draw out a small circle, Layers>Convert to Raster Layer, and place under the mouth
FEET
Pen Tool - Freehand, Line Style solid, width whatever you would like to use,
Foreground black #000000, Background null
Draw out a foot using your Pen Tool similar to mine or whatever you want your critter to be wearing
Layers>Convert to Raster Layer
Layers>Duplicate - Place the feet where you want, then Layers>Merge>Merge Down
Layers>Duplicate doing this one more time so you have as many sets of feet as you need for your Mr. Critter.
Place the feet where you want.
Layers>Merge>Merge down till you have all the feet on one layer, then Layers>Arrange>Send to Bottom
ANTENNA
Preset Shape Tool - Ellipse, Foreground null, Background black #000000
Draw out a small circle above the head for the top of his antenna, Layers>Convert to Raster Layer
Pen Tool - Freehand, Line solid, width 5-6, draw out the lower part of the antenna, Layers>Convert to Raster Layer
Highlight the small circle layer, Layers>Merge>Merge Down
Layers>Duplicate, Image>Mirror, place where you want
Layers>Merge>Merge Visible, crop off the excess area and hopefully
you will now have something similar to my critter
