Hello, and welcome to our space on the web.  Thank you for visiting us.  We are a family owned farm in Monroe County, in south-central Kentucky.  Our foremost goal is to provide our customers, as well as ourselves, with the best naturally raised beef, pork and poultry available.  To achieve this goal, we focus on building soil fertility and health using sustainable farming practices.

Please check our Announcements page for current farm happenings and availability of meat and breeding stock.

We invite you to come back often as we'll be adding to and updating this site.

Horse Power

One of our primary goals is to be self-sufficient.  One way we strive towards this goal is through the use of horse power.  By relying on horse power to make hay, till and cultivate fields, deliver winter hay to livestock and any endless number of jobs around the farm, we have significantly reduced our reliance on fossil fuels.  With horses, one farms at a slower pace, near the earth, where we can see, hear and feel all that is happening around us.  We find that working our farm with horses gives us an even closer connection to our work.

What do we mean by "self-sufficient"?

Heritage Livestock Breeds

We focus on raising heritage breeds of livestock, for the preservation of their unique genetics and for the qualities they offer.  Our interest in history was also an important factor in this decision.

Dexter Cattle

Dexter Cattle are a small, dual-purpose breed of cattle.  Traditionally a homestead breed from Ireland, these thrifty cattle produce quality meat, and enough rich milk to keep a family supplied with milk, cheese and butter.  Cows average approximately 750 pounds in weight and bulls weigh around 1,000 pounds.

Our grassfed Dexter steers provide healthy, tender, rich flavored beef, without hormones or unnecessary antibiotics.

Why Grassfed Beef?

Tamworth Pigs

Tamworth pigs are a bacon type hog.  They are thought to be the closest domesticated breed to European wild swine, making them an excellent range hog and an efficient grazer.  They produce a darker colored pork, which is lean and delicious.

Our Tamworth hogs are raised on pasture, supplemented with grain feed.  We do not use any hormones or antibiotics.

Tennessee Fainting Goats (Nervous Goats)

Tennessee Fainting Goats are a dual purpose breed of goat unique for their tendancy to stiffen and sometimes fall over or "faint" when surprised or scared.  This is due to a genetic condition called myotonia.  Because of this condition, Tennessee Fainting Goats are easy to keep confined.  They are a hardy breed, commonly white and/or black, and posess good personalities.

Our Tennessee Fainting Goats are used to control weeds and brush in our pastures, and we sell breeding stock.  Whethers are available for meat by prior arrangement.

Heritage Breed Poultry

We have raised primarily Speckled Sussex and Plymouth Barred Rocks.  Our free range poultry flocks supply eggs and meat for on-farm use and for sale.  The chickens scratch through manure patties, eating fly larva which reduces fly populations and improves animal health. They also build better pasture by spreading organic matter.
