We focus on raising heritage breeds of livestock, for the preservation
of their unique genetics and for the qualities they offer. Our
interest in history was also an important factor in this decision.
Dexter Cattle are a small, dual-purpose breed of cattle. Traditionally a homestead breed from Ireland, these thrifty cattle produce quality meat, and enough rich milk to keep a family supplied with milk, cheese and butter. Cows average approximately 750 pounds in weight and bulls weigh around 1,000 pounds.
Tamworth pigs are a bacon type hog. They are thought to be the closest domesticated breed to European wild swine, making them an excellent range hog and an efficient grazer. They produce a darker colored pork, which is lean and delicious.
Tennessee Fainting Goats are a dual purpose breed of goat unique for their tendancy to stiffen and sometimes fall over or "faint" when surprised or scared. This is due to a genetic condition called myotonia. Because of this condition, Tennessee Fainting Goats are easy to keep confined. They are a hardy breed, commonly white and/or black, and posess good personalities.©2007-2008 Dry Branch Farm
