I am truly amazed at the level of quality of just about all of the new Doctor Who series merchandise. There have been some really beautifully made items with an attention to detail never-before-seen in mass merchandise aimed at kids. Although, I imagine, most people buying new series are not doing so for kids. Doctor Who collectors are in merchandise heaven. Wesco has released a new series Dalek Money Bank that is simply gorgeous (and I don’t throw the word “gorgeous” around that much). The attention to detail here is simply stunning.

SCULPT – I really can’t find a flaw in the sculpting of the Wesco Dalek Money Bank at all. Everything seems to be in perfect scale to my eye. The sucker arm does suffer a bit from a very soft plastic used and warps downward just a tad. Soft plastic was probably used on purpose to protect kid’s eyes. Oddly, the gun arm is made from the same soft plastic, but is sturdier since it is shorter in length. The eye stalk, however, is made from harder plastic. The sucker arm is the longest, so I suppose there is a logical argument that is any appendage would hit an eye first, that sucker would be it. And it’s flexible enough to bend and not really poke. I am just guessing at the logic, though. The Dalek bank is around 8 inches tall, which makes it too small to use with 1/6 scale figures. It's too bad, though, because a 1/6 scale bank made by Wesco would be excellent.

ACCESSORIES – None unless you count the removable plastic plug on the bottom to access any money saved. My Dalek bank remains empty as I keep buying new series merchandise!

PAINT – The Dalek bank comes in a rich chocolate brown color with gold accents painted so perfectly it looks like it was molded in both colors. There are also silver and black accents on the eye and arms, which are clean with no sloppy paint work whatsoever. How Wesco did this I don’t know, but they deserve high praise.

ARTICULATION/ACTION FEATURES – Everything is static on the bank. I suppose they could have gotten fancy and made the arms and eye stalk move, but since it is intended to be a plain bank and not an action toy that would have been above and beyond the actual purpose. You place money in the bank though a slot in the top of the head dome. The slot is situated in an area of the head so that it is not really noticeable when viewing the Dalek head on.

RATING – 10 out of 10. A glorious Dalek sculpt that functions nicely as a bank and a display item.
Where to Buy - I've seen these on Ebay (of course) and Alien Entertainment has them in now now for $14.95.
