Millennium FX (LTD) are one of Europe’s leading providers of make-up effects, prosthetics and animatronics in the television and film industry. Founded by chief executive Neil Gorton the company is made up by a team of the industries leading artists who all help to bring their creations to life.
The companies’ impressive history boasts over 60 feature films (including the two Tomb Raider’s, League of Extraordinary Gentleman and The Da Vinci Code) numerous commercials and a vast amount of television shows.
But one of those TV shows stands out in particular….
2005 saw the successful return of Britain’s best loved Timelord to TV screens in over 6 years. With the series commissioned and 13 brand new scripts ready to pit the Doctor and his companion against a hoard of fresh new enemies, Millennium FX won the opportunity to provide the show with everything it needed.
Now up to its fourth series, with a fifth confirmed the show shows no sign of slowing down and Millennium FX are still holding on for the ride. Each week, the company provides the make-up, prosthetics, monster costumes and animatronics that bring each second of the 45 minute episodes to life.
Not content with creating brand new enemies for this generations Doctor to thwart, the group have even had their turn at re-designing classic monsters from the shows earlier years to re-introduce them to a fresh and unsuspecting audience, the most recent examples are the “potato headed” Sontarans seen for the first time earlier this year since the 1980’s.
Due to the phenomenal success of “new” Who and the creatures that lurk within it, the company have opened MFXReplicas with the intentions of giving collectors a chance to purchase their very own replicas of things seen in their various TV shows.
Concentrating on Doctor Who to begin with the company offer a wide range of monster heads and masks taken from the original mould for collectors to choose from. Initially starting with a Cyberman head (Rise of the Cybermen), Ood head (The Impossible Planet) and Clockwork Droid (The Girl in the Fireplace) mask, the range has grown, in recent months, to accommodate male and female Autons (Rose), Sycorax (The Christmas Invasion) and a Roboform Mercenary (The Runaway Bride) with the promise of many more to soon be available (coming soon will be the Scarecrow’s from Human Nature)
Each item is individually numbered and hand made to order, comes with its own (signed) certificate and exclusive postcard. An impressive range which already decorate the homes of many collectors.
With Doctor Who’s future secure for the foreseeable future it looks like we will be enjoying Millennium FX’s Who output for many years to come.
