Masaaki Hatsumi - Soke of the Bujinkan Dojo
Soke Masaaki Hatsumi (formerly Yoshiaki) trained in the arts of Karate, Kendo, Aikido and Judo, and attained mastery levels in all of them before he met his true teacher, O'sensei Takamatsu. It was through him he learned the nine schools that make up the Bujinkan Dojo today. Since the 1970's and 1980's Hatsumi-sensei has taught the arts to thousands of students world-wide and awarded several the rank of Judan, or 10th degree-black belt in the art, and also given them the title of Shihan, who each carry out the training to new generations of students. Some of his most notable students are Stephen K. Hayes, Doron Novon, Jack Hoban, Bud Malmstrom, Phil Legare, Jeff Prather, Ed Martin, Charles Daniels, Pedro Flietas, and many more. No longer teaching outside of Japan due to world events, Soke Hatsumi has an open invitation to all who wish to train with him at the source of Budo, in Japan. The last internation Tai Kai was held in New Jersey in 2003.
Hatsumi-sensei still teaches in the city of Noda in Japan, and his classes are widely attended. Check our Bujinkan Guidelines page for information on how to contact the Hombu dojo. Remember, all correspondence MUST be in JAPANESE.
