In my commentary this time, I've decided to examine the pros and cons of having good full coverage insurance over having mediocre liability insrance. I have had reason to form the opinion that full coverage is much better than simple liability recently due to having wrecked my own vehicle this past week, quite unexpectedly, of course. I've been in situations in earlier years where I could only afford liability insurance and so that's what I had and I thought that was pretty good at the time. Then I had a wreck about 8 years ago that pretty much totaled my car and sent me to the ER for some handy dandy stitch work on my head, which actually ended up taking a plastic surgeon to repair. It's a long story and only somewhat related to this one so I'll try not to bore anyone with details there. At any rate, I found out that having liability wasn't nearly enough when the other vehicle involved got fixed and I had to pull the bumper and fender back into shape as best I could and continue driving it as is. That car wasn't worth much before and certianly wasn't worth much after.
I got today off when I'm usually working! Bad news: I got today off because I wrecked on the way to work... Good news: No one was hurt! Bad news: Car was demolished on one side and sits in a body shop for now... Good news: Car I hit only got scratches and no one was hurt! | (was a '70 ford ltd! and me in an 06 corolla...aka tin can looking for a place to crumple...) Bad news: They need bondo and paint over 4 inches, I need a new bumper, fender and door, and who knows what else....I have a $500 deductible... Good news: I ONLY have a $500 deductible lol Bad news: I have to pay $1.25 a day for a rental car till mine is fixed... Good news: My insurance is covering $20 a day! So I have something to drive for now... Bad news: I now have to work Thursday, which I am usually scheduled off, so I don't loose any pay... Good news: At least it's not as bad as my first wreck 8 years ago when I was the one who got a cracked skull and 23 stiches and 12 staples in my head...lol and then I was the one to get sued???! Like I said, no one was hurt...thankfully! Anyway, that's my mix for the week (which should tide me over for some time if the stars are listening...lol). lol Just happened to read my scope today...it said something about having to deal with authority today...go figure...lol. (...end email...) So you see? If it's at all possible to afford full coverage insurance, it really does pay to carry it. These are just tidbits that occured for me right after the accident happened. It hasn't even been a week yet, and already my insurance has everything under way. I should be able to have my car back within a couple of weeks good as new, or at least good as it was before the wreck. As long as I can afford it, I never want to be with out a good full coverage auto policy for as long as I drive. If you don't already have full coverage, I strongly suggest you check into it at least and see if you can find affordable coverage, for your own sake. Beyond that, I hope you can carry it but that you never need to use it.
