Here are some commonly asked questions and my answers

  • How many lights are in the display?

For 2003 there were 20,895.

  • How long does it take to put up the display?

It takes about 1 month to put up, mostly in the late afternoon, and all weekends.

  • When do you start?

Putting up the displays is a full years effort.  I already start planning for next year before the current years display is taken down.  I do all my planning in winter.  Then during summer I build the displays, and when fall comes, it is time to start putting the stuff out in the yard.

  • How much does it cost to put up?

I buy all my lights at the after Christmas sales, so that saves lots of money.  The electricity bill is not much more that usual, and this year with the introduction of computer control, the display will use even less electricity.

  • Where do you get all of your ideas for your display?

Mainly from the internet.  There is a great chatroom at Planet Christmas where there are hundreds of people who talk only and entirely about Christmas lights.  It is a Christmas lights only chatroom, and it has proven to be a real help in solving display problems as well as getting new ideas.

  • Where do you get all the stuff?

Most of the stuff I buy at local stores, or in Saskatchewan.  After Christmas when it is on sale of course!  A lot of the things in the display have been made by my self.

  • Where do you store all the stuff?

Anywhere that I can find room.

  • How do you control all your lights and make them flash and chase and make the whole yard do all those cool things?

Go to Planet Christmas to find out.  The chatroom is where you will find all the answers.
