My Doula Training

I trained to become a Certified Doula with DONA (Doulas of North America) http://www.dona.org.

DONA are an internationally recognized accrediting organisation for Birth and Post-partum Doulas and Doulas are trained to high standards of practice and a code of ethics.

As part of my training I attended courses with a DONA trainer in Childbirth Education, Doula Training, and Advanced Doula Training.  Having completed the courses, I then "shadowed" certified DONA Doulas to births, and then eventually attended births as the primary Doula.  Positive evaluations from Doctors, Midwives, Nurses and parents were required by DONA, for all births attended in my apprenticship period, plus various written documents and essays. For more information on the Birth Doula Certification process please click here: http://www.dona.org/develop/birth_cert.php.

I have experience in non-medicated, natural  vaginal births, breech and multiple births, births with high intervention,  and c-section births.  Through San Antonio Birth Doulas I have supported pregnant low-income women and teenagers on a voluntary basis, as well as working with clients privately.  I now work at Community Midwifery WA  http://www.cmwa.net.au.
