The Double R Rabbitry

Quality Rex Rabbits in Northwest Ohio

Welcome To The Rabbitry

This is the Double R Rabbitry! Currently it is a 21 hole indoor rabbitry (the outside cages could house more, but I just put the rabbits in the outside cages on a nice day). The building is 15ft long and 7ft wide with a concrete floor. All of the cages are stacked three high. The rabbitry has a "sun-free" side for dark varieties, and a "sunny" side for the other varieties. The cages are 36 x 36, 30 x 30, and 24 x 24. I also built the exterior fence, in which my rabbits can run and have fun (all of my rabbits are spoiled, in case you did not notice).Again, welcome to the Double R Rabbitry!

This is the outside of The Double R Rabbitry. I built the exterior fence. It is 4 ft high with a six inch wire trench into the ground. The rabbits love running outside, and it keeps them trim and firm in their body. In addition, the fence helps protect any danger from getting into the Rabbitry. It works like a barrier. The exterior fence works great in more ways than one!

The outside cages are for the Rex and Chins to use on a nice day. The rabbits really enjoy getting outside!

Another picture of the rabbitry's exterior. This shows the inside of the exterior fence, and more outside cages. The other building and pen are for my chickens, but that is a different story!

Finally the inside of The Double R Rabbitry! Again the floor is concrete and the building is 15ft by 7ft. The cages all the way at the end of the rabbitry (6 on left, 3 on right) are for the dark rabbits. They are kept here because blind are up on the windows, preventing direct sun, which can fade the Black and Blue Rex coat. Also the feed storage containers are visible. The cages directly across from the door are for my light varieties such as Lynx Rex and my Standard Chinchillas.

This is the other half of the rabbitry (note the Lynx and Chin cages which are in the middle of the rabbitry.) Again, you can see my feed containers and my working/grooming area too. The far cages in this picture are for the rabbitry's Rex does (they are also the litter raising cages).

Here is a picture of the Lynx and Standard Chinchilla cages. These cages are "extra sunny," since they are directly across from the door. These cages are 30 x 30 inches and are the newest cages in The Double R Rabbitry (6 of them).

These cages are the biggest in the Rabbitry. They are 36 x 30 inches (6 of them). I keep all does in these cages. In addition, does raising litters are housed here. It is a great size cage and works well. the middle and top cages  recieve regular sun. The bottom 2 cages stay "sun free" enough for dark colors to be housed there.

These three cages are for dark colored rabbits. They are 30 x30 inches (3 of them). In my opinion, this is the ideal size cage for a Rex rabbit. If you notice, the legs of all my cages are made of wood. I have built or assembled every cage I use in the rabbitry. I make the legs so they can "un-stack" from each other if I ever had to remove a set of cages from the rabbitry. I also do this to make my bottom cages higher off the ground, so the rabbit is not so far down and the cage is more easily accessible. It is a great system and I am satisfied with the design.

These cages are the smallest cages I use in The Double R Rabbitry. They are 24 x 24 inch cages used to house dark colors (6 of them). I also use these cages for weaned litters and Jr. stock. It allows me to socialize with the rabbit better and ensure its safety.

Just a picture of the feed bins and my working/grooming area. Notice all the cabinets I  use. This works great for keeping all the supplies The Double R Rabbitry needs to operate successfully.

I know this picture is not exactly required for showing you the rabbitry, but Roxy is my favorite rabbit and she looks so perfect! I could not resist displaying this picture. Oh, but I do use crocks for both food and water, provide a resting pad, and use empty pill bottles for toys- as this picture shows. Thanks again for visiting The Double R Rabbitry!!
