Bournemouth Public Conveniences / Toilet provision

Local party policy is to increase not reduce the amount of toilets accessible to the public, particularly outside of the town centre. To deliver clean accessible toilets with many free to use.  We cannot see why the public should suffer because the local authority would rather embark on a closure programme than deal with the issue of vandalism and misuse. Toilet provision is a basic human right and to deny it places many residents under a virtual curfew.

Imax

If enough LIBERAL PARTY members are elected at the next election we will vote for a referendum on the IMAX and, if necessary, negotiate to pull it down and build something family friendly on the site, such as an Ice Rink or Family Activity Centre.

End the scandal of low pay

Bournemouth cannot continue to subsidise a low-wage economy. We call for a minimum wage of £7.50 an hour with decent work conditions and training.

The Liberal party believes in a radical overhaul of our tax system streamlining and simplifying our tax and national insurances structure. We would raise tax thresholds to £10.000 enabling people to take more of their pay home but reduce the plethora of welfare benefits which act as a barrier to employment and self improvement.

Help for young people

The Liberal Party has a policy nationally that would give every 25 year old £10,000 to invest in either a deposit on a Starter Home, help towards Self Employment, or for the cost of Further Education.
Planning & Over Development

Liberal party policy would limit the amount of applications developers can put in.

At the present time the greedy developer wins the day by repeated applications for the same site. We DO NOT condone either, plans that are not entirely correct in every detail. We are sick and tired of councillors blaming the Government when it is entirely within their power to grant or refuse applications.

Council Tax

Would freeze the Council Tax for two years - In a time of world recession & hard times Bournemouth council should live within its means like everyone else has to! The Liberal Party would scrap the council tax and introduce a scheme where more residents paid their fair share!
