DonkeyHoDown

IN THE BEGINNING...

I have been a devoted horse lover ever since I can remember, but donkeys were never my favorite, UNTIL...

Beginning in the spring semester of 2006, I lived with my grandparents on their 26+ acre farm.  They rented the land to a farmer who raised cows for beef and bought two donkeys to scare away the coyotes.  Over the next 5 or 6 years, the two donkeys Navaho (jack) and Tallyho (jenny) had Gungho (jenny) and Idaho (jenny).  They were turned lose in the fields on their own and not handled in any way for all of these years.  At the time that I decided that I would attempt to become a "donkey-whisperer" and train the donkeys, it was impossible to approach them, much less enter the same field, without the four donkeys dashing off to the protecting woods.  The summer after I started to win their trust, Tallyho had another jenny, Hiho.  Finally, in the spring of 2007, Tallyho took the banana peel from my hand and soon Tallyho and Hiho were following me around like puppies.  Around September 3, 2007, Tallyho had a jack, Rotaho and Idaho had a jack, Soho.  By the fourth day, I was able to rub Rotaho's nose and from then on our friendship has only improved.

... NOW, I love donkeys just as well, if not better, than horses!!!
