Our lifeguard candidates, upon completion of the required skills, will be qualified to guard at a pool near you! Many of our guards have worked here at Thurston for the Senior All Night Party, elementary school swim parties, the local YMCA's and summer camps. Fees & Purchase Options
Fees: $5.00 Per student fee for American Red Cross enrollment.
Book: $35.00 If you plan on becoming a LG, you may want this for reference to refresh your skills. and knowledge.
Mask/Gloves: $12.00 These items are used during class as well as on the job. The pocket mask is the barrier you use when giving mouth to mouth resuscitation. We have a few that can be sanitized and borrowed, but you are welcome to puchase your own.

In The News...
In order to successfully complete this course the student must:
Swimming skills:
- Be able to swim continuously: 4 lengths freestyle with rhythmic breathing, 4 lengths breaststroke, and 8 lengths freestyle and or breastroke in that order.
- Swim from shallow to deep, retrieve a 10 lb brick and bring it back to the shallow end wall by: 1) keeping 2 hands on the brick at all times, 2). keeping your face above water the whole time, and 3) keeping feet off of the ground by kicking constantly within 1 minute,40 seconds.
- Successfully complete all rescues and final scenarios.
First Aid / CPR skills:
-Pass all skills with a B or higher
Book Work:
- Pass all four Final exam sections with a B or higher
