Dear Auntie Petra,

 

Thank you for your wonderful training. Our mommy and daddy are sooooooo happy.

We were gentle but wild and crazy dogs jumping on people and furniture. You taught us how to sit, stay, heel, leave it, work on a leash and lie down and also not to jump on someone when they came to the door.

My mommy and daddy work with us every day so when you come back to visit us you will be really proud of us. We just loved our training and looked forward to it each week.

We miss you as you were always gentle with us and always praised us when we did well. You also were patient with us when we did not do so well. At the end of our session, you always gave us attention and we can tell you love us!

 Bosco, Doberman Pinscher (Obedience and anti-aggression training).

 

"Petra Griffis came into our lives in November 2007 to assist us with our 1-1/2 year old male Doberman with leash and fear aggression.  Bosco was a rescue at 4 mo old and demonstrated some leash aggression as well as being afraid of some men.    At one year old, Bosco was attacked by another dog at a doggy day care facility in Gilbert.   The incident at doggy daycare made him more reactive with other dogs, and at times some men. 

Petra's training was instrumental to his successful transition to being free from fear around other dogs, people entering our home without issues, and overall, set his groundwork for improved obedience and for his "human" owner's to act more like leaders and provide better support to him.   In May 2008, we introduced a new puppy to our home. Based on Petra's work, Bosco accepted the puppy within minutes and they are best of friends!  We can't begin to express our sincere thanks and appreciation for her dedication to Bosco and the learning experience for our entire family!"

My family and I met Petra approximately three years ago when we hired her to train five of our dogs; two American Pit Bulls (Pistol and Sonya), one Cairn Terrier (Jessie), one English Springer (Princess) and one Wolf/Husky/Shepherd mix (Rex).  Petra was hired for several different reasons.  One was that all the dogs were out of control and running our home and a second was that we were afraid of an out and out war between a few of our headstrong breeds.  

 

Although Petra was hired to help us with our “out of control” crew, we were doubtful.  Much to our amazement, Petra was not only able to train our canine companions but she was able to train us, as well.

 J  The difference she has made in our lives is phenomenal.  We are now the Alpha and no longer controlled by our dogs. When there is a scuffle amongst the dogs, they are quickly diverted with our commands.

 

Petra’s ability to train dogs is due to her uncanny knowledge, intuition, spiritual awareness and the ability to speak their language. She knows exactly what a dog is thinking and what they’re next move is going to be. This makes for an awesome trainer!!  Petra is truly God’s gift to the canine world.  Go Petra!!!

Petra has trained three dogs for us. We have not made it easier for her by getting two Australian Shepherds and a Border Collie mix, all of which are full of energy and one with serious aggression. 

 

 She has not only done an unbelievable job training our dogs she is a large part of the reason why we have such a close and trusting relationship with our dogs. 

 

 She is always been just a phone call away with any questions we may have and has always provided invaluable advice. 

 

 Our dogs absolutely love her!

 

They listen to every word she says and we are starting to believe that she can speak dog!! She can really look into a dogs eyes and see their story. 

 

 She has become like part of our family and we (dogs included) trust her completely.

 

 

 

Dog's Info:     Chato/ male/ 1.5 years/ Catahoula Leopard Dog - Pit Bull mixed

 

I feel very fortunate to have found Petra. I was not the most experienced dog owner when I adopted my Catahoula/Pit Mix. He presents quite the unusual problems at times. And I'm fearful that I may over-react to some situations.

In addition I have M.S. (Multiple Sclerosis) and my large powerful dog could easily *think* he's the leader of the pack. I learned that I must develop and maintain excellent voice control, I must learn and teach my dog to walk well on leash, and to ensure that he has good recall, etc..As Petra states: It starts with the handler. She gave me confidence to take control and be a good, balance, and fair handler to my mutters.


I still run to Petra for advice, she has an uncanny perception and picks up the details and cues that many trainers miss. With a brief summary of the problem, Petra is able to analyze the information, synthesize it and put into place a simple workable plan. Amazingly, after a brief conversation, Petra was able to sort out the problem and devise a plan of action.

So many of her techniques have given me more confidence, which is really the root of the problem. And what Petra has instilled in me is that the own/handler must establish and maintain the leadership role.

I'm getting there, little, by little. My boy improves as I do - Thank you Petra .  I am so very grateful you're in my circle of friends.

 

 

 

 

Dog's Info:     Hogan/ 1 yrs/ male/ Dachshund (Severe aggression issues) 

 

We contacted Petra because Hogan was agressive toward people/dogs and biting. On the very first session, Petra began showing us how to get control of Hogan and began transitting us from being controlled by our own dog to being in charge of him. Hogan also lacked social skills, and throu her training he is now able to go for walks around the neighborhood and Petsmart to shop for new toys without grolwing or being aggressive toward everyone he meets.

Petra's techniques are extremely effective, but most important, they are humane - she loves Hogan just as much as we do and nothing that she has done or has shown us would in anyway be harmful to him.

We are so grateful to her for teaching us how to be rsponsible and effective pet owners and for making such a positive difference in our lives.

I have and will continue to recommend Peetra to friends and neighbors in need of quality, effective dog training services!

 

 

 

        Dog's Info:      Sadie/ 6 month old / female / Border Terrier

 

Border Terrier’s are a very intelligent and uncommon Breed, which are some reasons why I purchased one.

 I wanted to train Sadie to be obedient because they also tend to be very stubborn. This is one of the reason’s why I chose Petra to be my dog trainer. Her reputation is what caught my eye and after taking a couple of her classes I have not been disappointed.

She also trained my friend’s dog who is a very well behaved and obedient dog now.

 

 I started off with the puppy session in which Petra comes to you house and teaches for 1-2 hours (or longer if necessary) about how to handle a new puppy. That class was very helpful because there’s so many steps in establishing yourself as the Alpha to your pup. I then took the Group Class, which helps with socialization along with the basics of obedience.

 

She emphasizes not to use any harsh training methods, (like choke chains or forcing your dog to do anything.) She teaches you how to be the boss of your dog and then in turn how to get your dog to listen to you. If you respect your dog, your dog will respect you and you need to be a persistent and happy trainer. If your dog is frustrating you, stop and start again later. Petra is a great trainer and I would recommend her to anyone in need of a dog trainer.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Dog's Info:     Jabari / 1.5 years / male / GSD (Behavioral issues)

 

Jabari was a 1 ˝ year old German Shepherd Dog that we rescued from the pound and death.  As my wife was on the phone with the Humane Society, she, sight unseen and at that very moment, had to decide whether to have him neutered or euthanized.  She chose to have him neutered and would pick him up the next day. 

 

 Jabari had been abused, psychologically and physically, so had many issues to overcome.  He seemed to have no self-confidence and, for a short time before we hired Petra, he started “marking” in the house.  It was Petra to the rescue, giving us the tools we needed to increase Jabari’s self-confidence and obedience. 

 

 Petra seemed to have a special understanding of Jabari, communicating in a way that we “normal humans” didn’t.  She took a very positive and calming approach to training both Jabari and his human(s).  She was extremely intuitive in understanding his feelings and thinking.  She would re-enforce both his good behavior and our improving handler skills.  We would (and have) recommend Petra to friends and acquaintances.

Two Super Mutts from the same litter, wild and crazy! Ask Petra. She has an amazing ability to communicate with the dogs. She was able to teach me how to work with and train the dogs to behave. The dogs learned quickly! The humans had the troubles! I now LOVE to be around my dogs and can also trust them with my kids.

Petra would adjust the training to fit the family's needs, unclude the kids, and now the dogs are WONDERFUL!
