INTOXICATING PROSE
A LIQUID PURSUIT

As a child I was poured a little white in sparkling water - something which whet a lifetime's appetite for Bacchus' nectar. I find it incredible that one can cross continents, taking in diverse culture and climate, through the liquid in the glass – flavour in geography...

Believing wine represents the highest interaction between man and plant, many critics have achieved satiation sensuously applying words to its nuances. Being one such person, I contribute di-vine prose for a variety of publications including 'Southwark News'. I have also presented programmes for BBC Radio, the latest, an hour long phone-in.

If my gut could speak, it would suggest the need for a more playful form of epicurious prose aside from that proffered by current 'Cholestasauri'!

Hence my most regularly updated venture, an acclaimed Web-Log, thedailywine.co.uk, which harnesses the ease of online publishing to allow me to detail intriguing bottles and circumstance as encountered.

For a year and a half I worked as Senior Guide at 'Vinopolis', Borough Market’s wine theme park, achieving the award for Best Conversationalist. 2006 saw an introduction to Burgundy importing and restaurant review reconaissance with The Guardian's critic.

2007 presented extensive sommelier work (some international) with The Cellar Society and in April, a solo cellar door tour of California. Early 2008 sees trade trips to Puglia and Madrid. I also freelance for At Your Serivce (in conjunction with The Wine Adventure), Sniff & Spit, Sensible Wine Services, Sopexa and accompany Italian Chef Enrica Rocca as Sommelier on market masterclasses. At least two days per week, I can be found recommending bottles at 'Bedales' wine merchants and bar, Spitalfields. I am also Off-Trade Consultant for a presently small but ambitious independent firm, Oenotek.

I hosted a wine appreciation course at Tottenham Court YMCA which gave me the confidence to offer tailored tastings privately. Clients have included British Telecom and NBC Universal.

My short about English Wine, 'Taste of England' won a place at the East Anglian Film Archive, a subject revisited in my submission for 'Young Wine Writer of The Year, 'A New World Mentality'.

    A TASTE OF ENGLAND

I used to run a small TV company and produced two documentaries in '05 for BBC One and BBC Three. This short represents an earlier project. It features Anglo-Italian Count, Lorenzo Bedini (independent importer extraordinaire) can be watched on-line. Lorenzo was involved in a televisual proposal supported by Faction Films and Point Blank TV, 'Blood & Wine'. Contact him on: lorenzo.bedini@btinternet.com.

  • Head to 3BTV.com, click on 'LIBRARY' and then enter 'A Taste of England' or 'Blood and Wine' in the 'CLIP SEARCH'.
