SPENCER-PENN CENTRE (This information is being provided for those of us, from the Drewry Mason High School Class of 1972, that attended Spencer-Penn Elementary School.)
Click here to visit the SPSPO web site We Want You to Join Us The Spencer-Penn School
Preservation Organization (SPSPO)
invites you to become a member to help 'continue the tradition'. With
enough willing bodies and positive spirits, great feats can be accomplished.
The Spencer-Penn Centre will continue its service heritage and stand proudly for
decades to come. (Check out the SPSPO web site to learn about the renovation progress, fund raising efforts, book drive for the community library and more!) From the Martinsville Bulletin, September 28, 2006: Linda Burnette Fain compiled a pictorial history of the Spencer-Penn School starting with construction in 1926 to its closing as an elementary school in 2004. Photos of individuals, student bodies, athletic teams, teachers and events make up the double-DVD package. Music appropriate to each time period accompanies the photos. Fain said she attended Spencer-Penn School from the first through the seventh grades and she did the DVDs to help preserve the history of the school and to help the school preservation organization in its fund-raising projects. She donated 100 sets of DVDs to the organization. Copies are available for $20 at the center by calling the center at 957-5757, or by mail for an additional $2.75. The mailing address is Spencer-Penn DVD, P.O. Box 506, Spencer, Va. 24165.
