Special or Significant Memories From High School
(The following were
submitted prior to our
35 year reunion and were printed in the "Memory Book." Scroll to
the bottom for additions.)
Pamela
Adkins King: I was always very shy in school. I enjoyed school and people
didn’t really get to know me very well. Ms. Louhoff did take special interest
in me and my sister, Martha. She took us on a trip to Maryland to visit my
uncle while she visited her family nearby. Gave me a glimpse of another world.
Linda Burnette Fain:
The immense stress of spending all those years trying to conceal the fact that
I’m related to (“kin to”) Armand Harrell!
Diane Clark Kallam:
Finding out that Mrs. Fallin was Billy’s cousin. I still think my greatest
memories have been the reunions. It has been so good to see and talk to people
you haven’t seen in years.

Cynthia Compton Parks:
Mrs. Parks telling me my skirt
was too short!
Sylvia Dance Handy:
There are too many memories to write down…fun times with friends.
Dan Dehart: A lot
of the teachers and coaches treated us like adults as their equals. They would
joke and kid around with us, but they didn’t expect us to act like kids
anymore. I see some of them today and realize they are not that much older than
us.
Van Duncan:
Imitating Coach Rodney Apple.
Working with Bobby Hines delivering
cramergesic enemas to freshman football players. Hanging out at Hardee’s on
Memorial Blvd on Friday and Saturday nights looking for true love. In the 8th
grade, watching Mr. Spencer, our
science
teacher, crack a yardstick over the palm of Cleo Harris, after Cleo threatened
to throw Mr. Spencer out the window. Learning more Spanish cuss words than real
grammar in Marjory Merricks class. Getting the nickname “garbage man van” from
the baseball coach, I’d swing at anything…. Scaring the soul out of Bobby Dean
when working with Steve West, we all climbed to south Martinsville water tower
at midnight and tossed a manmade dummy off the top of it without his knowledge.
Forming a friendship with Mike Harbour during the first day of eight grade – the
blind leading the blind…

Jane Hatchett Inman:
I do have one regret…that I didn’t pay more attention in Mr. Bridges’ French
Class! It would have come in handy now even though this is an English speaking
country there are a lot of French people that live here.
Russ Kimbro: My dad
and I were attending a PTA or
teacher conference, and Mr. Harrell met us the door. Mr. Harrell made a comment
to my dad about his hair turning gray, and without missing a beat, Russell said
that he was worried about becoming bald. Dad went way up in my book that night.
Dale Koger: I’m
having a difficult time remembering what I did last week…
Ray Nelson: Sports,
P.E. teachers, Coaches influenced me about life long fitness. My time in high
school, 1968-1972, was a great time to be a teenager with the great social
changes going on with music, life styles and mini skirts!!!!!!!
Harvie Nunn: It was
a blur. I was just trying to survive…and party…moderately.
Jackie Ramey: I
remember it took me 6 years to get thru DMHS. I go to the other reunions, but
don’t have as much fun.
R. E. Turner III:
Friday nights and Saturday nights, friends.
Darrell Watkins:
Being new to area and starting DMHS in ninth grade, was glad to make new
lifelong friends. Also, racing Robin Arnold in her 442 and sneaking to the
Spartan restaurant.
Mike Young: Ricky
McCraw and I carving “Ace” and “Flash” into all of the desks we could.
Mike Mounce: 1969 -
Spartan Varsity football team goes 9-0; 1970 (71) - Mass Production performs at
school assembly and brings the house down!

Riches:
I have very
strong...and very laughable memories of American History class with Mr. Smith.
Dale Koger and Mike Watkins were the culprits, we paid no attention to class and
reveled in the humor provided by Mr. Koger and Mr. Watkins as they "played
football" during class..back of the room of course!...You guys made a very
boring class be tolerable and actually quite entertaining! Thanks for the
memories! Jan Riches
10/18/03 From Linda Burnette Fain:
I couldn't help but share this picture with my classmates. It was taken on
September 27, 2003, at my house where I was hosting a bridal shower for my
niece. Just wish I had thought to get my sister, Joyce, DMHS Class of
1970, in it as well! Then there would have been four consecutive years of
DMHS represented!
