The family of deceased classmate, Jack Gregory, on the death of Jack's father, Paul A. Gregory, Sr., 85, of Spencer. He died Monday, Sept. 22, 2008, at his home.

Harold Durham and his wife, Barbara, and their family on the death of Barbara's mother, Ethel Donovant Rakes Keith, 78, of Ridgeway. She died Monday, Sept. 15, 2008, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville.

Sue Smith Hane and Gloria Marshall Cooter and their families on the death of their step-mother, Evelyn Jamison Smith, 74, of 17670 A. L. Philpott Highway, Martinsville. She died Sunday, July 27, 2008, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville. (Sue's dad, Bill, was currently married to Evelyn. Gloria's dad, the late Don Marshall, was previously married to Evelyn.)

Dean Rea Pigg and her family on the death of her brother, William Douglas Rea, 71, of 1106 George Taylor Road, Spencer. He died Wednesday, June 18, 2008, at home.

Cynthia Beard Robinson and her family on the death of her mother, Mabel Bull Beard, 84, of 495 Wilson Ave., Martinsville. Mrs. Beard died Wednesday, June 4, 2008, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.

The family of Gary Lee Burnette, 45, of Stuart. He died Monday, March 17, 2008, at his home. Gary was the cousin of Linda Burnette Fain and the brother of Audrey Burnette Williams (DMHS Class of '71), Diane Burnette Rorrer (DMHS Class of '73) and Len Trent.

Phyllis Parlier Taylor, and her family, on the death of her father, Alvin Coan Parlier, 74, of 537 Lee Ford Camp Road, Ridgeway. He died Saturday, April 26, 2008, at Danville Regional Hospital.

Estelle Eanes Meadows, and her family, on the death of her mother, Mary Lee Strait Eanes, 88, formerly of Ridgeway. She died Nov. 17, 2007, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville.

Rodney Hundley and his family, on the death of his mother, Frances Seay Hundley, 80, of Martinsville. She died Saturday, April 5, 2008, at Blue Ridge Rehab Center in Martinsville.

Brenda Harris Keesee and her family, on the death of her mother, Annie Lou Nolen Harris, 83, of 4853 Mitchell Road, Ridgeway. She died Saturday, March 29, 2008, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville.

Richard Wyatt and his family, on the death of his mother, Margie Jean Anderson Wyatt, 77 years old, of 127 Pole Branch Lane in Stuart. She died Thursday, March 20, 2008, at Stanleytown Health Care.

Dean Rea Pigg and her family, on the death of her brother, Edward Rea, 68, of 3084 Skyview Trail, Martinsville. He died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2008, at the Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Philadelphia, Pa.

Punkin Minter Riggs and her family on the death of her father-in-law, Marshall Yates Riggs, 76, formerly of Mountain Road, Martinsville. He died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2007, at R.J. Reynolds-Patrick County Memorial Hospital.

Patricia Spencer and her family on the death of her brother, Donald Spencer, 48, of 370 Gray Leaf Circle, Martinsville. He died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2007, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville.

Rick McCraw, his wife, Marlene, and family on the death of Marlene's father, Leonard G. Gregory, 93, of Collinsville. He died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2007 at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville.

Victor Fulcher and his family on the death of his step-sister, Kim Keckler Coleman, 50, of Spencer, VA. She died Tuesday night, Sept. 18, 2007, from injuries received in an automobile accident.

Russ Kimbro and his family on the death of his mother, Ruth Briggs Kimbro, 80, of Rich Acres. She died Saturday, September 15, 2007, at Britt Haven Health Care in Kernersville, N.C.

Drema Altizer Austin and her family on the death of her brother, James Douglas Altizer, 57, of Axton, VA. He died on Monday, August 20, 2007, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville.

Carolyn Frazier Lankford and her family on the passing of her mother, Virginia Sizemore Frazier, 77, of 559 Sunnycrest Drive, Martinsville. She died Friday, July 13, 2007, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville.

Mike Mounce and his family on the death of his grandmother, Oakey Belcher Mounce, 89, of 6751 Horsepasture-Price Road, Ridgeway. She died Wednesday, June 6, 2007, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville.

Benny Carter on the death of his father, Lonzie Nellard Carter, 76, of 384 Marrowbone Circle, Ridgeway. He died Friday, Feb. 2, 2007, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville.

Karen Wilson Parrish on the death of her brother, Michael Ray Wilson, 45, of 221 Wilson View Dr., Axton, who died Sept. 7, 2006.

R. E. Turner III on the death of his mother, Violet Arrington Turner, 71, of 51 Evergreen Drive, Spencer. She died Saturday, July 29, 2006, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville.

Patricia Hall Minter on the death of her sister, Vicky Hall Chitwood Hancock, 48, of 75 Wind Dancer Lane, Ridgeway. She died Friday, July 21, 2006, at Memorial Hospital, Martinsville.

Jerry and Glennette (Coats) Haga on the death of Jerry's sister, Betty Carol Haga Drake, 59, of Los Angeles, formerly of Horsepasture, Va. She died June 29, 2006, at the UCLA Medical Center, in Los Angeles, CA.

(Sammy attended DMHS with us to the 10th grade and many of us knew him from Spencer-Penn Elementary School and from the Preston community. He was a cousin of our classmate Aubrey Flanagan. I personally know Sammy's sons and they are both fine young men and Sammy was very proud of them. ~Linda)

The family of Richard Curry, former teacher at Drewry Mason High School, on the death of Mr. Curry's grandson, Jeffrey Arlen Curry, 20, of 619 Holbrook Ave., Danville, VA. Jeffrey died Monday, Feb. 27, 2006, at the Danville Regional Medical Center.

The family of Sarah H. Flanagan (Sarah Eggleston when she taught math at Drewry Mason High School). Sarah Holland Flanagan, 65, of 1921 Dundee Lane, Martinsville, died Friday, Aug. 12, 2005, at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, N.C.

Sue Smith Hane and her family on the death of Sue's brother, William "Billy" Clarence Smith III, 48, of 156 Bouldin Road, Ridgeway. He died Sunday, May 8, 2005, at his home.

Debbie Thompson Boyd and her family on the death of her mother, Edith Belcher Thompson, 75, of Bassett. She died on Friday, May 21, 2004 in Martinsville.

Debra (Coplin) Johnson and her family on the death of her father, William F. Coplin, 76, of 650 Church Street, Ridgeway, VA. Mr. Coplin died on Tuesday, December 2, 2003, at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County.

Janice (Johnson) Riches and her family on the death of Janice's father, Willard Louis Johnson, 84, of 390 Ramona Drive, Ridgeway. He died on Saturday, September 27, 2003 at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro, NC.

Mike Hines and his family on the death of Mike's mother, Betty Jean Barker Hines, 72, of 3009 Leaksville Road, Ridgeway. She died on Monday, August 18, 2003, at her residence.

Kathy (Williams) Ponder and her family on the death of her father, Ernest Neason Williams, 74, of 178 Canterbury Lane in Ridgeway. He died on Saturday, August 16, 2003, at his home.

Doug Smith and his family on the death of his father, Ray Smith, 86, of Beverly Health Care Center, Martinsville, who died Monday, August 4, 2003, at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County.

The family of Thomas R. Goodman, Jr. Mr. Goodman, 65, of 163 Ellsworth Court, Ridgeway, died Tuesday, June 24, 2003, in Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He had retired from the Henry County School system with 32 years of service. (Mr. Goodman was a history and geography teacher at DMHS during our first two years there.)

Tim and Judy Cox on the death of their son, John "Treavor" Cox, 17, of 707 Old Well Road, Spencer, on Tuesday evening, November 12, 2002, of injuries received in an automobile accident. He was a junior at Magna Vista High School, where he played football with the Magna Vista Warriors and was a member of the JROTC.

Punkin (Minter) Riggs on the death of her husband, Robert Marshall Riggs, 46, of 6001 S. Kings Highway, Surfside, S.C., and formerly of Martinsville, on Wednesday, May 29, 2002.
