Hey everyone. Just wanted you to see the big buck I got this year in Martinsville out on Barrows Mill Road where I hunt. I love hunting and was blessed with this deer on Nov.8th 2010 when I was hunting with my muzzle loader.
Hope everyone is doing well.
Just think next year we will have been out of school 40 years. Man does time fly. Well goodbye for now and God Bless.

My sister is friends with Patricia Mize’s sister and she shared with her that Patricia has cancer. I’m not sure of the type of cancer or how long she has had it. What I do know is she has been in the hospital in Raleigh since before Thanksgiving and has undergone several rounds of chemo. This saddens me so. I would like for all of the DMHS classmates to pray for her. I believe that God can work miracles and she needs one. Thank you.

Stumbled across your web site today while trying to discover Don's (Coleman) wife's address. I have some art work that he did in college and I wanted to see if his daughter or wife would like to have it to remember him by. Hard to believe he is gone. We grew up together and had a lot fun building dams on Marrowbone Creek, building forts, and running from black angus cows.
Can't find Ken (Coleman).
If you have any contact that you can share, I would appreciate it.
Great website.
Thanks for your time.

It is with great sorrow that we inform you about the passing of Barry Hussey, DMHS Class of 1973. We had been getting updates on Barry and his medical problems for quite some time, thanks to our Brenda Ayers Ferguson. Barry, 55, of 156 Devonshire Drive, Ridgeway, died Thursday, April 22, 2010, at his home. Before his illness years ago, Hussey was an all-star athlete in football, basketball and baseball while in high school and received a scholarship for baseball to Guilford College in Greensboro, N.C. He later received his master’s degree in administration from the University of Virginia.

Hi! I'm doing great, however, because of the deep snow here I haven't seen the grass in my yard since before Christmas. My husband and I could be the poster children for cabin fever. Last week we went to Atlanta and what did it do there?...it snowed. Everyone there really goes crazy...worse than Martinsville. Please change my name in the class listing to Jane Hatchett Budd. The Inman-Budd name just became too complicated.

Below is an update on Barry Hussey (DMHS Class of '73), contributed by Brenda Ayers Ferguson on 10/16/09. It was sent to Brenda and others by Barry's wife, Mary Carol.
Message from Brenda: "Continue to remember Barry Hussey in your prayers and feel free to share with any others whose life he may have touched."
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
I’m only sending this to the prayer warriors that are still in the battle. Thank you so very much for all your time and effort you have spent selflessly interceding for our dear brother, friend, husband, father and minister of the gospel. “It ain’t over till God says it’s over.” I know from the words that have been spoken over his life that Barry has not finished his race. There is still much for him to do, and God is Able. As I see his health and conditions declining, I’m asking for more specific and targeted prayer. I’ve listed the prayer points below:
Prayer points for Barry:
1) Tumor: bigger and growing, not cancerous but still deadly
2) Pituitary: was damaged by the Gamma-Knife and is not functioning (essentially dead)
3) Weight gain: over 250lbs, very heavy and getting harder to pull lift and handle. Because the pituitary is not functioning he has to take steroids that make him gain the weight.
4) Weakness: he cannot stand and hasn’t stood in over a year. PT says it’s unlikely he ever will again and the weight gain makes it hard to exercise.
5) Totally blind in both eyes: he can not see even out of his good one.
6) Speech: He still tries to talk but much of it is unintelligible
7) Cognition: His ability to reason and comprehend is becoming less apparent.
In the face of all this, we stand and believe God as the Healer and Deliverer.
God bless you my brothers and sister,
Mary Carol.
This is an update on Barry Hussey (DMHS Class of '73) from his wife, Mary Carol, on 9/19/09. Contributed by Brenda Ayers Ferguson on 9/21/09.
Dear Family and Friends,
We took Barry to his Dr.’s appointment on Thursday of this week. It didn’t come as a surprise to hear that the tumor had grown. We knew something was going on when Barry lost sight in his good eye two months ago. Dr. Wilson looked at the MRI taken earlier that day and said that it had doubled in size in the last 6 months. That was the surprise, more like a shock. So it comes to this, God is in control. As He was 12 years ago when the first injury occurred until now, He is still in control.
We are not giving up, giving in or calling it quits. We are continuing to fight the good fight and trust God with the results. As one preacher said” it ain’t over, ‘til God says it’s over”. Please join with us as we continue the fight. Next week, we’ll go to UNC for the wheelchair clinic to make Barry’s chair more comfortable. (With all the weight he has gained it is getting harder to sit for a long time in it.) Now that the blood clot is gone, we’ll get an injection in his knee that will help with the pain and also will help him be able to stand. We’ll look into home health PT, and start up with exercises, to regain strength and balance. And we’ll keep on keeping on.
We are so very thankful for all the prayers that have gone up on Barry’s behalf, as well as for our family. We are yet to see what God will do, and our Hope is in Him.
Love,
Mary Carol

Hi Everyone....
Just a note to let you know that on Monday, 6/29, Darrell and I will be moving back to our house at Myrtle Beach!!!! His knee replacement surgery on 6/8 went really well and he decided to go ahead and retire so we're heading south on Monday as soon as he finishes his physical therapy. He will have to take PT at the beach and we've already gotten all of that worked out but we're both looking forward to the move (and the retirement). He retired but I didn't so I'll be job hunting once we get there but that's OK...don't mind at all as long as we're getting to go back to the beach....My cell phone number will not change (336-736-1606) but as far as the address goes, I'll forward that next week as soon as we get the Post Office Box set up....
Wanted to share our exciting news...if you're going to be visiting in Myrtle Beach, give me a call and we'll get together....for our friends that are already in MB....we'll see you soon!!!!!
Love,
Punkin & Darrell (Harley, too)

I ran into her last year in a doctor's office and I knew her as soon as I saw

He owns Elaborate Landscapes in Axton. Ashley graduated from
Franklin County High School and from Virginia Tech in 2006. She is

be married on August 29. (I remember James when he was a little boy and
was a couple years behind my daughter in school. He was such a handsome
fella!)

Remember Shannon Gilbert, Class of 1973? I think he actually graduated
from Carver High School, but attended DMHS for three or so years and was well
known as a musician and being in local bands. Yesterday (Saturday) I was
at the Henry County Courthouse, serving as a "technical adviser" on a
informational video that is being done on the 21st District Court Service Unit,
where I work. It was "lights, camera, action" day after many weeks of
writing and rewriting scripts and preparation. The video is being done by Randy
Ferguson, who is employed at Patrick Henry Community College, lives in
Ridgeway and has a media production company. He introduced us to the
camera man, sound man, actress and a Magna Vista High School student who is
interested in learning media production. Anyway, turns out, the student's father
is Shannon Gilbert! Can't recall his name right now, but here's a picture
of him (on the left) helping Randy set up lighting in the courtroom.
Shannon was at the restaurant where we all went for lunch and I got a big hug,
or two!

(11/12/08: A message from Brenda Ayers Ferguson about Barry Hussey, DMHS Class of 1973)
Please remember Barry Hussey & family in a special prayer today, they have to replace the shunt in his brain at Baptist Hospital and the family has received some very discouraging news.
From: Mary Carol [mailto:mhussey@comcast.net] (Barry's wife)
Dear Family & Friends,
Please pray for Barry tomorrow as he is going into surgery to have his shunt replaced. There is a malfunction with it that has allowed fluid to collect on the brain again. The surgery is sometime in the afternoon. Pray that the drainage tube is still working so they don’t have to replace it. Hopefully after they get the shunt working he will have more function and cognition.
We have been waiting to hear from Dr. Wilson and what he saw on the MRI taken on Oct. 28th. Tonight he told us that the MRI revealed that the tumor is growing, at least at the same rate as before his surgery three months ago. The diagnosis is that without treatment (radiation) the tumor will be again as big as it was in August. We were scheduled to see Dr. Mc Mullen, the radiation oncologist, on Monday; but that was the day they discovered his shunt wasn’t working and admitted Barry to the hospital. We will reschedule for another time. Although we realize that with radiation we are only buying time. It is not a cure. This latest news is very discouraging, as we were hoping and praying for a miracle. However, God is still on the throne and our lives are in His Hands.
Love,
Mary Carol

Board Tours Renovations (Martinsville Bulletin)
Henry County School Board members said they were impressed by renovations to Drewry Mason Elementary School as they toured the school Thursday afternoon during their monthly meeting.
Drewry Mason closed as a middle school in 2004 when county schools consolidated. The school on U.S. 220/Greensboro Road was built as a high school in the early 1950s and has undergone extensive remodeling to reopen as an elementary school Aug. 20.

7/28/08 - Brenda Ayers Ferguson has forwarded a couple emails to update us on the condition of DMHS Class of '73 member, Barry Hussey. The first email is from Barry's wife, Mary Carol, and the second is from her cousin Betsy Johnson. Be sure to also click on the link to read the newspaper article about Barry at Topsail Beach!
Hi to all,
I thought you might be interested in this article that my cousin Betsy had a hand in at Topsail Beach. For the first time in a long time, Barry was able to go to our family reunion at Topsail. We were there during July 4th week. Although, he really hasn’t been in the best of health since last summer, Barry was able to make the trip. We had a lovely handicapped accessible house on the sound, where he could see the boats, seagulls, sunsets and fireworks from the family room as well as the balcony. He has always loved the beach and was so excited just to be there with everyone.
As my cousin mentioned in her email, Barry is going on Monday for an MRI and follow-up visit with his doctor at Baptist. We have seen some changes in him the last month or so. We would appreciate your prayers. And as always thanks so much for your love and support.
Love,
Mary Carol

Hi family - Some of you know and some don't that
I publicly thanked the Topsail Beach Commissioner's for the wheelchair that was
so useful to Barry when he visited Topsail a few weeks ago. As always, the
local newspaper had a reporter there, and she said she would like to do a story
about it. I provided her with pictures and made sure she had the Barry's name
spelled right. Other than that she just wrote her story based on my comments to
the commissioner's. I did ask Mary Carol first if it was OK and she said sure.
I was very pleased with the final product which was in last week's Topsail
Voice. To read it online,

Love to all...Betsy

I’m still living in the Turks & Caicos Islands at least part time anyway. I’m not sure if I told you this but my husband is retiring. It’s more like semi-retiring. His computer business will continue with his son running the day to day operations.
We’ve bought a house in West Virginia and have been traveling back and forth. We live there for a few weeks and then come back to the island for a few weeks. The people we’ve met in WV are wonderful. Most of them ask us if we need therapy after hearing where we are moving from. The TCI is a beautiful place and I love the constant summertime weather. during the week because they are only 10 minutes away. He is so funny. He
smiles and jabbers all the time. I see Wesley’s children about once a month.
They get so excited when they know we are coming. They are a lot of fun. Of
course we have only seen Angela once, but I think we will go down in a couple of
weeks to celebrate Isaiah’s 3rd birthday.
4-14-08 - A message from Estelle Eanes Meadows:
My great grandson was born on July 29th and I would have never have made the reunion. His name is Jonothon Leland Quinn. My mama died in November and I have been dealing with that and now my son- in- law, Chris Holt, is scheduled for a kidney transplant. He and daughter, Beth, are in Richmond at VCU now. He will be in surgery from 5 o'clock in the morning until 3:30 tomorrow afternoon. Please everyone say a prayer for us.
4-8-08 - Mr. and Mrs. Tab Arnold of Martinsville announce the birth of their daughter Anna-grace Frith Arnold, on 1/15/08 at Morehead Hospital in Eden, NC. She weighed 7 pounds and 8 ounces. Grandparents are Michael Smith of Martinsville and the late Anne Ford Smith and Darlee Frith Shelton of Martinsville. Mrs. Arnold is the former Julie Metz. (From the Martinsville Bulletin)

- An update on Ruby Harrell's condition. As noted below (12/4/07), Ruby
Harrell, wife of former principal Armand Harrell, had a stroke in
November. Armand and Ruby attended our 35 year reunion in July 2007, as
well as some of our previous reunions. According to my dad, who has talked
with Armand, and with my neighbor who attends the same church as the Harrells,
Ruby is not doing well and is at the Stanleytown Health Care Center. If
you want to send a card, or visit, the address is 240 Riverside Drive, Bassett,
VA 24055. I checked and a room number is not necessary to send a card.
