CLASS OF 1973 (Below is an email I received from my cousin Diane on November 6, 2004 concerning one of the classmates from the Class of 1973.)
Dear Classmates, teachers, and friends;
One of our classmates, Roger Anderson, has only
one child, Ashley, age 19. She is terminal with cancer. She has only been sick
for a short while with spinal cancer and it has already spread into her vital
organs. They are keeping her comfortable at home after being in the hospital
at Charlottesville. They are not given any hope for her survival and they know
she does not have very long to live. Needless to say, Roger and his wife,
Debra are simply trying to get through this terrible ordeal and be strong for
Ashley. They only ask for our prayers. They also told me that Ashley loves to
receive mail. I am asking any of you that would be willing, to send her a card
or letter and a word of encouragement to Roger and Debra.
They moved from here when the DuPont plant shut
down and Roger went to work at another DuPont Plant, in Waynesboro, VA. They
have no relatives nearby. Debra has family in Mount Airy, NC and Roger's
parents are both deceased. It would be good if you would pass this information
on to others that might be willing to send a card to Ashley. Roger said that
she had already received cards from some of the churches and that they were
greatly appreciated. Please help me to make this precious child's last days
better by receiving all the cards and letters we can send.
Thank you,
Diane Burnette Rorrer

(Update from Diane, later on November 6, 2004) I just got a call that Roger Anderson's daughter passed away at home yesterday. The family will be coming back to have family night Tuesday and funeral services Wednesday at Moody's in Mount Airy, NC. CLASS OF 1973 REUNION Click here for the group picture! The Drewry Mason High School Class of 1973 had their 30 year reunion on Saturday, November 29, 2003, at the Best Western in Martinsville. The reunion committee worked countless hours to plan and prepare for the event for their classmates. They invited many classmates that had attended school with them at DMHS from the 8th grade until their junior year, when Carver High School integrated and their class was split. As a result, they had a total of 128 in attendance at the reunion, with about 78 of those being classmates. It was a great turnout and the committee was very pleased! My cousin, Diane Burnette Rorrer was on the reunion committee and invited me to the reunion... to help with registration. Diane's sister, Audrey Burnette Williams, DMHS Class of 1971, also helped with registration. It was great seeing the Class of '73, most of whom I had not seen in 31 years! I wish I had swiped one of their memory books and made some notes about the awards. Here are some that I can remember: Eric "Rick" Fulton was voted the most changed male classmate and Phillip Shelton was voted the least changed male classmate. Martha Adkins Tatum was voted the most changed female classmate and Mary Lou Prillaman Lumsden was voted the least changed female classmate. Don Portis was the master of ceremonies. Roger and Sylvia Dance (Class of '72) Handy have the youngest grandchild (5 months old). John Hairfield has the most children...6! I took a few pictures and thought I'd share them with you... ~Linda (Click on each picture to enlarge. Click browser BACK button to return)
