It is dlawrence54@yahoo.com.If you had a chance to read the article in the Martinsville Bulletin about the Crosley we restored, one detail that I didn't put in the article was that Joe Devault led me to the car. We purchased the car from Joe's next door neighbor. Small world or what ? Doug Lawrence

10-22-07 An email from Jane Hatchett Inman-BUDD! I enjoyed seeing the photos from the July Reunion. It looks like you had a great time and I wish I could have been there. I was a little busy myself on July 28th. I was actually on my way to Las Vegas for a vacation and to get married. Gary and I were married on Aug 1st and no; there were no Elvis impersonators involved. Did you know their Marriage License Office is open 7 days a week from 8 am until Midnight? It was my first trip to Vegas and it was overwhelming to say the least. But we had a good time and also visited the Grand Canyon. Island life has been good and so far this year we have avoided any bad storms or hurricanes. Hurricanes are a grave concern here. It’s a small island and there’s no place to evacuate to. Usually if there is a threat only tourists are asked to leave. The airlines will send extra planes to get them off.
I had a unique opportunity to go
on a sunset cruise the other day with some well known and interesting people.
I’m including a few photos. The first photo is of Michael Clarke Duncan and
me. He co-starred in the movie “The Green Mile”. He is a big guy but of course
not as big as he looked in the movie. He was funny, gracious and just an all
around nice guy. The next photo includes Shawyne (?), Jasmine Guy (she appeared
on the Bill Cosby Show, Fresh Prince, & A Different World), Vanessa (Michael’s
girlfriend) & me. Jasmine Guy is a very nice person and quite fascinating to
talk to. The 3rd photo is of Dwayne (he works for my husband),
Michael Duncan, Gary (my husband) and me. And last is a photo of Gary, me,
Kelly (Dwayne’s fiancée) & Dwayne. Also on board the boat were a camera crew
and staff from Access Hollywood. This country has become a mecca for the rich & famous but this was my first chance to get up close and personal. Al Gore is supposed to be here next month for a conference at the Beaches Resort. I doubt I will run into him at the grocery store. That’s all the news for now. Jane Inman - Budd

9/9/07 - A note from Brenda Ayers Ferguson: Wanted to say thank you for my "special" get well card. I want to keep that one, of all the ones I have received. (Special-made, from the DMHS Class of '72!) Surgery went well. A little disappointed however that I will be out of work for 4 more weeks and having therapy 3 times a week. But whatever it will take to avoid a full knee replacement, I will listen. The good Lord knows what is takes to slow a person down and give them time to think!
Love to all the class mates! Another note from Brenda Ayers Ferguson: Ready for another one. Next time let's do Karokee.... 8-30-07 - A note from Brenda Ayers Ferguson: Please change my e mail address to read the following: I am doing well after knee surgery one week ago today. ( torn meniscus repair) On crutches, for a few more days and out of work 2 more weeks but doing well otherwise. Hope this e mail finds everyone well and enjoying the end of the summer.
Take care ! Brenda 8-19-07 - The Stroller section of the Martinsville Bulletin reported that Mary Jordan has attributed the renovation progress at the Spencer-Penn Centre to "the perseverance of Spencer-Penn alumni and their families, neighbors, friends and many other people" that have visited and supported the efforts of the Spencer-Penn School Preservation Organization. She said that the recent wish list involved the redesigning of the parking lot and playground areas. Royce Hylton (DMHS Class of '72), an engineer with Brunk and Hylton Engineering, Inc., and Billy Joyce, who both live outside of the area, volunteered their services to help redesign both projects. 8-16-07 - Got a nice email from Bobby Kanode and some WONDERFUL pictures that his daughter took at the reunion. Thank you Bobby and Bailey! ~Linda

7-29-07 - Dear
Reunion committee:
Sylvia 7-29-07 - Greetings from ATL. Got back this AM. Sorry we had to slip away from the reunion so early but we promised one of my nieces we would make a showing at her birthday party Sat. evening. The primary reason for this message is to say a great big “THANK YOU !!!!!!!!!” to all you folks who worked so hard at putting the reunion together. You did a tremendous job and we are very fortunate to have such dedicated, hard working people like you as members of our class. Food was great, accommodations were great, music was very well done, and the memorabilia was great ……. I could go on and on but you get the idea………..a great job done by some really top notch people….Thanks all of you. Harvie Nunn 7/17/07 - From Brenda Ayers Ferguson - an update on Barry Hussey, DMHS Class of 1973. From Barry's wife, Mary Carol:
Barry has been home now for
almost 4 weeks and is getting stronger everyday. Dr. Lee saw him last Wednesday.
He recommended Barry to continue with PT, OT and get back into Pool therapy. He
also adjusted his medicine and gave him a botox shot in his right arm. That
helps the arm not be so tight. Barry is very motivated and is working hard at
his exercises at home. He will go to his PT John Pero in These pictures were taken this past weekend while Mary was home. Please continue to pray. We go back to see Dr. Tatter August 7 for a follow up MRI and appointment. Dr. Tatter is the neurosurgeon who was with the team of doctors who performed his first gamma-knife treatment on Barry back in Jan. 2005. Meanwhile, Dr. Wilson has sent Barry’s films to a Dr. at the University Of Arkansas Medical Center. We are waiting to hear from him. I’m trying to get some info on Johns Hopkins and the Cleveland Clinic as well. But it is harder when you don’t know any doctors there. Barry is doing so well; I hate to think he may have to go through another operation. We still need a miracle: My prayer is that God would curse that tumor at the roots and that it would shrivel up and die.
God bless you all
7/9/07 - From Brenda Ayers Ferguson - an update on Barry Hussey, DMHS Class of 1973. From Barry's wife, Mary Carol: Barry is home!!! Thank the Lord. He came home on Thursday and has been very happy. He is eating well and doing well. We have a lift to help him transfer from the wheelchair to the bed, to the shower chair, etc. We are treating that knee with kid gloves. Even though Barry was able to get a shot of cortisone to relieve the pain, we still need to keep weight off of it for now. Hopefully he can get back to pool therapy soon. I’ll be at our annual family reunion this week, so if any of you would like to call or come by to see Barry, he will be at home. He will be spending time with his family on the fourth. He begins out-patient therapy at Blue Ridge Rehab later on this week. He will still get speech, OT and PT at least 3 times a week. And by the way, the doctor’s appointment went well. The doctor was really happy to see Barry looking and doing so well. Because his Pituitary Gland was damaged, Barry will be on synthroid and prednisone for the rest of his life. But his levels are good and they will be checked periodically. God bless you all and have a Happy Fourth of July, Love, Mary Carol 6/26/07 - A message from Pamela Adkins King: My niece, Katie Jane Rutherford, graduated from Bassett High School on June 8, 2007. It will soon be a reality for me. I'm moving to Providenciales, Turks & Caicos Islands, BWI in March. I visited the islands back in January and it is in a word...PARADISE. However, there are a few downsides to paradise. Everything has to be imported so living expenses are quite high there. It's a British Territory and they drive on the other side of the road. There are no traffic lights, only roundabouts. This will take some getting used to. Also, mosquitoes seem to love paradise too. My temporary email address is feline262@yahoo.com. I will update that address as soon as I can. Jane Inman 2/11/07 - Mike Watkins' wife, Cathy, is licensed in health and life insurance and has joined Trinity Insurance Services, Inc.
