1. Click on your Start button and go to "Run". Type "Explorer" (without the quotes) into the box and press "OK"
The problem of the Normandie track in Need For Speed: Porsche Unleashed (Porsche 2000) causing your computer to freeze can be extremely aggravating! I know, it used to happen to me all of the time. I updated my drivers, I reinstalled the game a few dozen times, nothing helped. Finally, thanks to the good folks over at TotalNFS I found a solution!
It appears that there is something about the sky at the Normandie track which doesn't agree with nVidia based cards. This can cause your game to close back out to the desktop, or even worse it can cause your system to freeze entirely! Definitely not a good thing.
I've created this page to walk my fellow frustrated racers through the process of swapping the sky texture out with the one from Corsica.

1. Click on your Start button and go to "Run". Type "Explorer" (without the quotes) into the box and press "OK" |

2. Navigate to your "Program Files" folder, hit the plus sign, then "Electronic Arts", hit the plus sign, then "Need for Speed Porsche Unleashed", hit the plus sign, then "GameData", hit the plus, then "Track", plus again, finally highlight "Sky" |

3. Next we will want to make a copy of the Corsica sky. We do this by highlighting the Corsica's sky files (CANYON.BIN, CANYON.FSH, CANYON.TXT) by clicking CANYON then holding down the CTRL key on the keyboard, and clicking the other two CANYON files. |

Then we want to click "Edit" at the top of the screen, and then finally click "Copy." |

4. Now we want to make a backup copy of our original Normandie files just in case we ever need them again, and we do this by renaming the FARMLAND files (FARMLAND.BIN, FARMLAND.FSH, FARMLAND.TXT). To rename the file Right-Click it, and click "Rename". We will call these files FARMLAND.BIN.OLD, FARMLAND.FSH.OLD, and FARMLAND.TXT.OLD, respectively. (Be sure to press enter to save the name change!) |

5. We've made copies of our old files, so now lets put the Corsica sky into the Normandie track! Click "Edit" at the top of the screen, then click "Paste". You will see 3 copies of your CANYON files, each starting with "Copy of" Simply rename these files using the methods described above except we will call them FARMLAND.BIN, FARMLAND.FSH, and FARMLAND.TXT respectively. |
