Goals and Achievements

My goal is to ensure the health and longevity of all of my lines produced.

My breedery is ADV NEGATIVE.  We test all the ferrets three times a year.   We vaccinate all of our breeders against Rabies and Canine Distemper as well.  All babies produced are health checked prior to going to their new homes and have a three year health guarantine.  This health guarantee covers any genetic problems within the first three years.

It is my belief that to produce a ferret that is healthly, you should take all the necessary precautions to ensure the lines are free of as many risks as possible which include breeding lines that are as clean as possible.  We also bring in foreign bloodlines every couple years to help strengthen the health and longevity of the lines.  The average life span of my lines is about 9 - 12 years of age.

Is there a health guarantee?

Yes.  We guarantee the health of the any kits from my breedery for three years.  Which means if something happens in the first three years due to a genetic health problems, I offer a replacement from kits produced the following year (if none are available at that time).  I offer the replacement at no cost to the owner.  Also if something happens to the kit please notify me as soon as possible.

What means of transporting the ferrets do you offer for those out of state?

There are several means of transportation for picking up your ferret. We offer pickup at the breedery directly, transportation from PA to IA or NE (pick up can be arranged in IA) is provided two times a year (Mid March or Mid September), at a ferret show (LOS Fort Washington PA Show, LOS Bensalem PA Show, Warm Fuzzy Reading PA Show, Philly Ferret Fest Fairless Hills PA Show and other individual shows as well) and under certain circumstances I will fly ferrets to their destination as long as the weather is between 40-75 degrees farenheit, the airline provides a sub cabin (pressurized and temperature controlled), ferret must be over 16 weeks of age and the person receiving the ferret is there when the flight arrives.

Do you offer discounts?

Yes.  We offer a $25.00 multi-ferret discount.  This means a $25 discount is offered off each pair of ferrets.  We also offer a $25 discount off "pet-only" kits when they are altered.  Which means if you purchase a kit, by the age of 1 year or within 6 months of acquiring the ferret it should be altered (with a "pet-only" contract), then when the proof of altering (should be mailed to me) is received you will receive a $25 check back in the mail within 3 weeks of receipt.

When is the breeding season for D'lightful Ferrets?

We usually have kits available between February to August.  Once the kits are born and pass the two week mark, I will post pictures of them on this website.  I do not accept deposits prior to two weeks of age.  The minimum deposit is $50.00.  This money is refundable as long as I receive notification within 60 days of reciept of deposit that you are changing your mind.  No kits can leave until they receive at least two distemper shots (usually age 10-12 weeks).  There are normally a series of three distemper shots, if only two where given at time of receipt, proof that the third distemper shot must be provided within 1 month of acquiring the ferret.

How do I purchase a kit?

Please read the adoption contract listed on this site.  Once you have read the contract and agree to the terms, the first of two interviews will be conducted either via phone, email or in person to qualify you are right for a baby.  Not all adopters are matches for a baby.  First time buyers should look into getting a ferret over 12 months of age. Most often times babies are very active and tend to teethe until they are 12 months of age.  This is often difficult for first time owners.

The second interview conducted will be determine the right ferret for your.  We match up the ferret's personality with your own. Once we have determined the age, sex, color, etc., of the ferret that you are looking to adopt or purchase, we will finalize the adoption/purchase process.  Please note, before anyone takes a ferret home they must provide a ferret friendly vet reference. For further information on purchasing a kit, please contact dlightfulferrets@aol.com.

What age ferrets do you have available?

We have ages of all ferrets.   The breeders we have are usually retired between the ages of 3 to 5 for females and 4 to 6 for males.  These breeders are retired at these ages and often times available for adoption.  We also have kits and ferrets under 3 years of age available during the breeding season.  All of the ferrets are handled with love and care.

What is your price range?

My prices range from $150 to $450 ($450 - $550 for imported lines) depending on the lineage for ferrets under the age of 12 months.  Prices may be reduced as they age.  Those purchasing for a pet home will receive a $25 discount when proof of altering (neutering or spaying) is provided.  Please ask about availability and prices. Retired breeders depending on age are usually from $75 - $150.

How are your ferrets temperments?

We are licensed by APHIS division of USDA in reference to domestic pet animals and animal care.  We hold this license because as a rescue and private ferret breedery, we bring our ferrets to shows, schools and other public events for public education of ferrets.  In addition to using rescues, we also use the babies from our breedings for public relations.  We breed for good temperment. We bring our ferrets to kindergardens, youth groups, community colleges, and other public places to educate people on proper care and keeping of the ferret, educate on ferret abuse and other ferret related topics.  We do not sell to pet stores or ferret farms.  We do sell to individuals and other ferret breeders only.  We are not required to hold this license but prefer to hold it since we have dealings with the public and like the aspect that we are inspected to ensure we meet the government standards.  To us this means that our county and state can be comfortable to know that we maintain and care for our animals and therefore are presenting healthy animals to the public.

What documentation is provided to me upon receipt of the ferret?

All ferrrets over the age of 16 weeks will be fully distemper vaccinated, ADV tested, have a full 6 generation pedigree (if available), birth certificate, certificate of guarantee (for kits only) and maybe Rabies vaccinated.  Anyone who would like their kit health certified by a vet may opt to do so with a $25 health certificate fee. Also any imported lines will receive proof of importation (if available).

Also it is recommended that you ADV test your ferret at least once a year.  Please see this website for more information on testing: http://www.pooflinger.com.  All ferrets should be vaccinated against distemper and rabies (in states where required).  If showing your ferret, it is recommended that you find out what the health and/or record check proceedures are prior to sending your registration for any show you are looking to attend.
