A few of Disney's well known films are put on broadway as musicals. The first was Beauty and the Beast and most recently The Little Mermaid.

Beauty and the Beast |

It was the first Disney film to be turned into a musical and premiered April 18th 1994. Alan Menken who wrote the music for the film and musical but Tim Rice took over writing the lyrics from Howard Ashman who wrote the songs for the film. The opening prologue recording was done by David Ogden Stiers who voiced Cogsworth in the film. |

The Lion King |

Based on the 1994 film, The Lion king first hit the stage on July 31st 1997 and is still preformed today in many different countries. Like the film the music is by Tim Rice, Elton John and Hans Zimmer. It has currently won many awards including Best musical, Best costume design, best lighting design, best choreography and best direction.

The musical based on the 1964 film first hit the west end in December 2004 then opened on Broadway in November 2006. some stuff that were in the original books that didn't make it into the film have been added to the show such as a walking statue but stuff from the film, Uncle Albert laughing on the ceiling and songs including "stay awake", "I love to laugh", "The life i lead" and "A British bank" were removed. | |

Based on the 1999 film opened on broadway on May 10th 2006. The songs are the same as in the film with lots of new ones all written by Phil Collins | |
