 Tom Sawyers Island opened at Disneyland in 1956, orginally going to be named Mickey Mouse Island. The island though is currently playing host, not to crafy Tom Sawyer, but buccaneers. Pirates Lair on Tom Sawyers Island opened in 2007 just after the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie was released. The Island features a brand new (and very cool) Smuglers Cove, were kids can enjoy alot of time in. Injun Joes cave has also gotten a huge pirate update, and is a must do on the island. There are a few parts that will make you jump though. This island also features the very famous Captian Jack Sparrow and its very own Pirate show. Show times are not written down so when you get to the island you need to ask a cast member when the next showing is.

Tom Sawyers Island is a great place to let your kids burn off steam. There are plenty of fun areas for your kids to play. The only thing we really suggest is that you need to keep track of your kids while they are playing. There are lots of diffrent caves and tunnels on Tom Sawyers Island were kids can get seperated. Make sure you a have a meeting place for you kids if they ever get seperated. Also be aware of the time that Tom Sawyers Island closes, generally the island closes at sundown since there are really no lights on the island itself and it is dangerous for you kids to be on the island. During the summer the island may close before sundown if Fantasmic is playing so they can set up for the show. The show starts to get set up at around 6:30 7:00 PM so the island would most likely close at 5:30 to 6:00 PM. Also the pirate show that is played on the island does fill up fast so be sure to get there early and have someone save your seats. Other then that have fun and be safe.
