Mark Twain River Boat

The Mark Twain River Boat is a Disneyland orginal. It opening with Disneyland in 1955 to the public. The night before Disneyland opened Walt Disney had a private pary on the Mark Twain and that day is considered its madien voyage. On the day the Mark Twain opened up to the public she almost capsized when all the guest on board raced to one side of the boat at the same time. The Mark Twain docks at the same port of the Sailing Ship Columbia so the entrance is the same for both. Also the pilot signals thedeparture and arrival of the Mark Twain using a horn and bell system, along with various signals to other river craft attractions. Because the riverboat travels along an I-beam guide rail throughout the ride, the pilot does not maneuver the ship. Instead, the pilot serves as lookout for other river traffic, such as the Davy Crockett's Explorer Canoes and the Rafts to Pirate's Lair on Tom Sawyer Island, and communicates his observations with the boiler engineer in the roundhouse complex on the lower deck. It is the boiler engineer who controls the riverboat's speed and direction (forward/reverse) along the underwater track through a steam-powered paddlewheel system.

The Guide to the Mark Twain Riverboat

The Mark Twain River boat, just like the Sailing Ship Columbia is a calm attraction on the Rivers of America. The attraction is also a walk on with basically no line. The attraction takes you through the rivers of america as they appeared back in the 1800's. The attraction is a perfect thing to do when you want to just relax since there are chairs on the boat deck. For best observing we reccomend the top deck.

On most days, the Mark Twain begins operation as soon the park opens. On days when Fantasmic! is being performed, the riverboat, which plays a role in the show, will close a couple of hours before showtime. On other nights, the Mark Twain will run through the evening, using a high intensity rooftop spotlight to point out sights, with the final trip beginning about thirty minutes before park closing. A sign at the loading area will list the day's last trip.
