If you don't believe in steam power or sailing to travel around the Rivers of America, or you just want to make your teenage kids suffer, this attraction is perfect. Here the only way to make your canoe move is by you paddleing. Yes you actually have to paddle, you will have two Disney River Guides on board to help you but you still have to dip your ore in. Now doesn't that sound fun! Well truth be told it actually is, your Disney guides are very competitive and funny, you will find yourself in a heated race before you know it to get back to the dock before the other canoes get there. So jump on board, grab a paddle and have fun.
Now you don't have to be in peak physical condition to participate but you do need to know that you will be tired afterwards. The trip is not short since you go around the entire island. You will recive basic instructions on how to pattle and then you are off, the other thing is (and the Disney guides will remind you of this when you are on board) do not splash water on your friends of family. The water in that river is not clean by any standards, though there are pumps and filters there are only a few and there is a lot of river so do not splash no matter how tempting it is. It won't kill you to get wet, because it will more then likely happen, but avoid it if you can. The attraction does close at dusk so if you are planning on doing it, do it before then, also guests have to be able to get in and out of canoes, so if you have trouble with stairs or in a wheel chair or crutches, we reccomend you do not ride unless you are sure you can do it.
