Wading with the Water Festival Queens
Check out what the Water Festival Queens have been doing since being crowned.

IN THE WORDS OF A TITLEHOLDER......
What Pageants Have Meant To Me......
***Below you will find an essay that was written by Erika Suzanne Taylor, former White Lake Water Festival Princess and Majestic Queen and former Miss White Lake Water Festival, of what best represents her and why she loves pageants.
This may sound a bit cliché, but just as the Old Well represents Chapel Hill, I feel that a crown best represents me. You know, the tiara kind that belongs to beauty queen winners and queens from the Victorian Era. Yes, I know what you must be thinking; here comes a girl who’s preoccupied with looks and outer beauty and must thrive on being the center of attention. Although it may appear that way, since most beauty queens are stereotyped in that manner, my reasoning for choosing a crown to represent me is not based on those characteristics, but rather, based on the moral attributes that I have acquired from having held a title.
May 11th 2003, I was crowned Miss White Lake Water Festival Princess. It was my first title and I was more than pleased to know that I would be representing part of my hometown for the next year. Entering the pageant as a 13-year-old seventh grader, I was a timid, shy child and hoped that the pageant would help to undermine those characteristics. After traveling around North Carolina attending numerous pageants, parades, fairs, luncheons, and festivities, I began to shed my shy image. I instead, bloomed into that of a proud, positive, and confident young lady. Having the opportunity to meet many inspiring people, including former Miss North Carolina’s and Dale Earnhardt Jr., I began to see that a crown represented more than just a pretty face; it represented what was inside and enhanced the true inner beauty of an individual.
In my eyes, holding a title instills positive opportunities and imposes everlasting life lessons. Leadership qualities, positive moral standards, confidence, a willingness to make a difference, and the creation of a sense of responsibility are all qualities formulated from the attainment of my title. If it weren’t for my gratifying opportunity, I would not be the confident, outgoing leader that I am today. I try to embody every aspect of what I’ve learned from acquiring my title. Through this, I’ve grown to recognize that it’s not the crown that makes the queen, but what’s inside.

SPECIAL THANKS
When you are a pageant director, and wear all the hats that I do, you cannot do it all on your own. I have a cast of special people that have come to my rescue over the years. I would like to recognize a few and say Thank You for all you do for me and the White Lake Water Festival Pageant. If you have never directed a pageant or even been involved in one, you don't know how hard it is to make it all come together. For these people, I am truely thankful and don't know what I would have done without them.
To Heather Guyton, my own personal angel. You came to my rescue a couple of years ago and have been by my side ever since. It means a lot to have someone to take what I throw out to them and run with it. I am glad that I was able to talk you into continuing to help me because you have truely helped me keep my sanity when it comes down to crunch time. You are not afraid to voice your opinion and that helps a lot when it comes to stuff I hesitate to do. You will never know how much it means to me that you have stood by me through thick and thin. I know there are times when you just want to give up on me, like this past year, but you haven't and for that I am truely thankful. No matter how many times I get upset or say "I quit", you tell me to take a deep breath and relax. If it wasn't for you these past few years, I really would have given up and let someone who doesn't have a clue about what hard work a pageant is defeat me. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
To the White Lake Water Festival Committee for allowing me to continue an event that not only allows girls to grow socially but spiritually and learn more about themselves and others.
To every titleholder that has ever had the opportunity to represent White Lake; without you, things would have not been the same. I have the most extended family ever and I wouldn't give up one single minute of it. I hope you, as titleholders, have gotten as much from your experience as I have. You will always hold a special bond in my heart and will forever be one of "My Girls".
I would also like to thank Dale and Joan Brennan for encouraging me to keep my head up and keep the pageant going. Everytime I say "I'm through", I can always count on Dale to say "No you're not. We're not going to let you quit". Rough waters run deep and trust me when I say it has been rough sometimes but my philosophy has always been "What doesn't kill you only makes you stronger". I guess I can say this has been true. It hasn't killed me yet, and Dale and Joan have always been there to help make me stronger. Thank You!
To anyone that is not mentioned by name, your help is truely appreciated.
Last but not least, to God, for giving me strength, knowledge and determination to produce such a challenging event and not let anyone keep me down.

IN MEMORY OF WESLEY JAMES PUSEY
This will remain on this page in memory of one of the most courageous little boys I know of, Wesley Pusey, and his parents, Brandon and Veronica. Wesley fought a long and hard battle with LCH and lost his battle on June 5, 2007. Please keep this family in your prayers because they will need them all to help deal with the loss of their precious little boy. LCH is a disease in which the Langerhans cells are increased in number and invade the various tissues of the body. More or less a disease of the immune system, blood disorder that attacks different parts of the body which can also be the liver and skin, in Wesley's case.
