Performance

Solo poetry and short story performances in multiple venues in Liverpool and Cologne (1993-2002), in Bangladesh (2005) and Nigeria (2006).

Asian Voices Asian Lives - founder/member and facilitator of collective of British Asian writers and performers since 1992. Performances of poetry, music, comedy and live art, as well as workshops, in Liverpool, Bradford, London, Sheffield, Preston, Slough, Huddersfield, Oldham, Tameside, Coventry, Leicester, Batley, Windsor on BBC TV’s Network East and live on BBC Radio Four’s Loose Ends. Key Asian Voices productions: performances at Bradford Mela (1993-5); Showcase (Unity Theatre, 1994), In Performance In Celebration (Unity Theatre, 1995), Cooking Up A Storm (national tour 1996-7), Departures (Bluecoat Independence Live Art commission, 1997), Monsoon Barbecue (National Street Art Festival commission, Brouhaha Festival Liverpool, 1999), Kidder (in development for Unity Theatre, 2003)

The Spark Collective - founder/member of theatre, later live art collective since 1988. Dislocation Sermons - ACE Year Of The Artist commission with musician/composer Phil Hargreaves, developed pieces blending literature with improvised music for performance and recording by an augmented Frakture Big Band  (Bluecoat Arts Centre, Liverpool, 2001)

In My Father’s House - lead artist and performer for Black Arts Alliance production with 100 Black men appearing on or represented on stage (Contact Theatre, Manchester, 2001)

Education + Academic

Creative writing teaching at Liverpool Hope University (2003) and University of Central Lancashire (2006)

Writer working alongside rappers for Activate Theatre Word Up project, working with schoolboys aged 10-14, in Wirral, Cheshire (Sept 2006 - present).

Mentor on British Council / Lancaster University Crossing Borders project, providing on-line creative writing support to young writers in East Africa (Sept 2003 - present)

Extensive experience of leading creative writing workshops in primary and secondary schools, working freelance, and through Windows Poetry Project, Black Arts Alliance, Asian Voices Asian Lives, Greenhouse Multicultural Project, Catalyst Dance and Drama (1993-2002).
