I was given the Dutch start, which looked very yummy. Gold, cattle, a fish and flood plains. This would make an excellent commerce city.
I started with a work boat so that the capital could grow before building a worker for the gold mine.

I sent my warriors out exploring, but the luck wasn't that great with huts. Got some gold, but had 2 hostile villages as well. In the meantime, I went for masonry since the stone was so near. What would be better to build the Great Wall for more spy points to test that new system. Thus I went to first build a mine on the gold hill and then to connect the stone.
Then I went to start the Great Wall. Here is a view of the capital at that time

I netted the Great Wall in 2200BC to generate great Spy points. Soon I got a taste of the new random events system, albeit not in my favor. First the Khmer got their melee units enhanced versus archers and then I got this.

Result was a destroyed work boat...Well, never mind, we can live with this. Next event was this

I started to trade with Pacal as I decided to keep my flanks to the west friendly for now. I wanted to concentrate east with expansion as it was terribly crammed there.
In 410BC I got my Great Spy to join the city for more spy points.

I got Pacal to friendly and had quite a few tech exchanges, gave him HBR and currency for monarchy, poly and 60 gold. And the familiar feeling came back to my capital once again.

Read on at page 2 whether the event 'luck' continues and whether I actually have some action in this game.
