This is a beautiful place to hike. Where the rocks aren't covered with moss and ferns, it is rugged and incredible. The trail goes straight up. I'd love to see where the rest of the trail goes. At one point in the trail, I could turn in a circle and see five waterfalls. Dad was loving all the different types of ferns. I was just happy to get out and get some fresh air and exercise. |

The first real hike of the season! This was perfect. There weren't too many people, the trail was nice and muddy and everything was very green. We could see lots of waterfalls from the trail, including one incredible one that divided and divided and divided as the water came down. There was a bench across from it, so you could just sit and watch for hours. The trees here are huge because, unlike most of this area, Boulder river never got logged. This is a great early season hike! I'd be willing to bet that it gets crowded on summer weekends. |

Another great early season hike. Dad and I hiked to the lake. The last part of the trail wasn't all the way melted out yet, so about 1/4 mile or so of our hike was post-holing. It was worth it. We watched mini-avalanches come down and splash into the lake. The sound they made was incredible. Played in the snow. Talked about logging history. There are some HUGE stumps here and you can still see the springboard notches on many of them. We had gotten a fairly early start, so we didn't see many people on our way up, but it was a freeway on the way down...Including a couple of girls hiking in flip-flops. |
