Mama’s Little Helpers are a 4 piece blues/boogie/party band based in Tayside. Although the band was formed in March 2004, the individual members have a huge amount of experience playing in bands all around Britain.
Their musical style is blues based but also with a dash of boogie/soul and party rock in the mix.
The band have been building a reputation for producing a great party atmosphere wherever they go.
Allan Oliphant: (drums) Allan’s percussion career started at the top playing the maracas in the Oxford secondary school band on "Blue Peter" in a successful world record attempt for the conga!!!
After moving to London, Allan moved into rock, blues and a 10 piece jazz big bands in west London. Since coming north, in 2003, Alan is also appearing with a jazz band in Edinburgh and with Caroline in Time Waits.
Andy Warner (bass guitar) started playing, in his native Southampton and followed the rhythm and blues circuit in the south west of England. The highlight of his playing career was playing on a ship off Trondheim, Norway. He has also been a member of the Blues Brothers tribute band, Sweet Soul Brother Frank & the Booze Brothers. Andy’s first love is rhythm and blues particularly Dr. Feelgood.
Sandy McCurdy (guitar & vocals)Started playing in rock, soul and blues bands in the late 60’s in Greenock. He moved to Edinburgh and played in various bands from folk to blues and the occasional wedding band. For a time Sandy lived in Bath and was part of "The Moments"…..a backing band for an Elvis Presley impersonator!!
Willie Brown (guitar/vocals) Willie joined the band recently (Aug2006) and is a great addition to the sound. Willie has a long musical career and adds wonderful guitar licks and some great soul vocals to the overall mix.
Eric Wales (guitar/keyboard/vocals) Eric is a part-time member of MLH. Despite his musical career spanning the decades, Eric’s enthusiasm gives the band a great lift, every time he plays with us. He has been a regular member of Fat Sam’s Band (who have toured the USA & Europe) and one recent project was a successful stint at the Edinburgh Fringe 2006, where he led a skiffle group!
Caroline Campbell (keyboards) Sadly, Caroline decided to leave the band in July 2006, due to pressure of work. She has a great deal of musical experience playing in various bands including, ceillidh, rock, dance & jazz bands. We hope very much that Caroline will come back for guest spots in the future.
