          BEFORE INSTALLING ANY MODS!

Before installing any mods I suggest you make a duplicate folder of your working directory.

The easiest way to do this is go to your TS folder and add a new folder (highlight your main TS folder then go to File, new folder,) name it DG- clean. If your current dg folder works fine then open your dg folder, highlight the 1st file, click on edit, select all, copy, then go back to the clean folder, open it and paste all your selctions into it (should do it automatically if you hit paste). This will give you an archieve of the DG to work off of.

Next create a folder off the main TS folder again called DG-zipped. Copy all the mods and scn's into it so that you don't need to store them in you main dg folder. When you unzip the mods, just follow the instructions posted on my website. After you have unzipped and installed all the mod's and scn's you want you should have a working copy of DG_vn where your dg was originally.

Step 3... after making sure DG vn works well just the way you want it to. Create a DG_VN folder off your TS main folder. Like above select all your DG folder files, copy, and then paste them to the DG-vn folder. This will give you an archeive copy of a working DG-VN.  After you have installed a mod to the working directory and are happy with the way it functions and know you want to keep it, copy it back over your DG-VN folder.

If any of the mods later cause a problem or your DG-vn stops working you can just copy the whole archieve back over it and you are back up and running. You also have a full copy of a work DG original in case you don't like the VN mods or games.

This note from Paul Adaway:

Wyatt/Jorge,

I would very much recomend that people run DGVietnam as a seperate install to Middle East/European Divided Ground. There are 2 reasons for this, one serious and the other just for fun;

1) Wyatt's amended movement pdt/pdx files for incorporating the new tropical terrain have an error. This is that there is no extra movement cost for a unit moving up an elevation.

DGVietnam can be set up with the amended files and live with the problem. Middle East/European Divided Ground works perfectly with the original movement files.

2) A seperate "Full" install of DGVietnam will allow the user to copy and paste the jungle background sounds from Rising Sun to give a more suitable atmospheric sound to the game. You could also download some suitable Vietnam period music, and replace the background music ("abackg0, nbackg0, xbackg0" etc). I have found some Jimi Hendrix and Doors wav files that are quite superb, unfortunately they are far too big to offer as downloads (some are 52mb!) and I cannot remember where I got them from.

regards

Paul

          What's New?

3-2-06:

Hot off the press, new movement files that should fix all helicopter and aircraft issues.  Also lots of scn's in final since last update.

Older updates:

Changes include being able to edit and use Soviet Units and US (1973) units in Fulda Gap type scn's using WF terrain and buildings in modern Germany.

Ability to create French and British unit's and scenarios.  For instance, using the French units in VN scn's prior to the US involvement.

Ability to use Islamic and Moslem units for N. Africa or European terrorist based scnenario's

Ability to creat 4 different types of terrain maps.... ( Go to DG edit, Maps, open existing map, hit cancel, then in the upper left hand windows menu select NEW, it will bring up the 4 terrain types for you to choose)

Includes the caves, boats (including NVA boats that can fire as well as transport units), and civilians mod for DGVN (civilian values have been reduced to -6 points.  That means if you take out a civilian platoon of 6 villagers with a -score (these have a big red "C" in the bit map) you will score a -36.  This is to represent the political impact of killing civilians that started with the Viet Nam conflict.

Also included all the aircraft changes and new updated fire factors.

NOTES:  Everthing after DG NAM1.2 (9-16-04) is a unit mod.  The order there is not important.

I have personnally installed these over my existing files and on a clean DG install.  We have tested this to death and can only see one small problem.  Many of the units only have a ORG life of a month of so.  This is important to know when using the edit org function of DG to create or edit scn's.  You may not see the units you are looking for if you are looking in the wrong months.  The ARVN, NVA, Soviets and US span several years but the other units are only available in a particular month of a specific year.  I am attempting to create a chart with when the units are available.  Below is the start of that:

UNITS AVAILABILITY CHART

Islamic:  1967 - 73

Moslems: 1967 - 73

Brits:  October and November of 1956 only

French: October and November of 1956 only

US: After 1965 to 73

Soviets: 1949 - 1999

ARVN: 1956 - 1973 (note many new units types do not arrive until 1967)

NVA:  1956 - 1973

          NEW: DGVN version 2.0 MOD (3-2-06)

Latest mod versions:

USE THIS AFTER 9-5-2005

Instructions:

"It is obvious to me that the procedure for installing the Divided Ground Mods is rather unclear. I think time has come for me to set out clearly what you need to do. As I have created most of the available mods, I hope people will take heed of what I have to say on the matter;

I recomend that you make two seperate installations of Divided Ground. One for Middle East/European scenarios in the default Divided Ground folder. One for Vietnam scenarios in a folder called DGNam.

Divided Ground Install;

1) Install DG from the CD.

2) Install the 1.02 Talonsoft Patch.

3) Install the following files from the Blitz FTP site;

DGCommon2.00
DG2.00
DG14Muslems2.00
DG28Islamics2.00
DGBrit2.00
DGFrench2.00
DGSoviet2.00
DGUSA2.00

These should be unzipped and the folders fully opened until you see all the individual files (bmps, .oobs, .obx, .pdt etc). The files should then be copied and pasted into the main Divided Ground folder.

4) Download the DividedGroundPictures.zip and DGUSPictures.zip files from the Blitz FTP site. Again, these should be unzipped and the folders fully opened until you see all the individual bmp files. The bmp files should then be copied and pasted into the Pictures folder within the main Divided Ground folder. If there is not a Pictures folder already there you will just have to create it.

DGNam install;

1) Create a folder in the Talonsoft main folder, and call it DGNam. The route should be C/Program Files/Talonsoft/DGNam.

2) Install DG from the CD, into the folder called DGNam, NOT the default Divided Ground folder!

3) Set up seperate Desktop or Start menu shortcuts to the DG, Divided Ground, DGedit, DGmap, and DGorg exes that are now installed in the DGNam folder.

4) Install the 1.02 Talonsoft Patch into the DGNam folder.

5) Install the following files from the Blitz FTP site;

DGNamCommon2.00
DG2.00
DGBrit2.00
DGFrench2.00
DGSoviet2.00
DGUSA2.00
DGARVN2.00
DGNVA2.00
dg-terrain

These should be unzipped and the folders fully opened until you see all the individual files (bmps, .oobs, .obx, .pdt etc). The files should then be copied and pasted into the main DGNam folder.

6) Download the DividedGroundPictures.zip and DGUSPictures.zip files from the Blitz FTP site. Again, these should be unzipped and the folders fully opened until you see all the individual bmp files. The bmp files should then be copied and pasted into the Pictures folder within the main DGNam folder. If there is not a Pictures folder already there you will just have to create it.

7) From Majogs DG Vietnam site; http://www.freewebs.com/dgvnmods/mods.htm

download and install into the DGNam folder the following;

dgvn menus
up21226.zip (OPTIONAL)
VN-caves.zip (OPTIONAL)
http://webzoom.freewebs.com/dgvnmods/!!platoon10.zip

You will also, of course, need to download majog's excellent Vietnam scenarios.

You will now have fully working copies of Divided Ground and Divided Ground Vietnam.

It would be very useful if these instructions could be posted somewhere on majog's site and on the Blitz, replacing any previous instructions.

Things to note;

1) The DG1.04u (or DG1.04v) patch is obsolete. Everything in it is included in the DG2.00 files. DG2.00 also includes many more corrections of errors and new units and graphics. All links to DG1.04u should be removed from any site that currently has them!

2) Similarly the DG nam 1.2 patch is obsolete, and replaced by the version 2.00 downloads.

3) There is a movement error contained within the dg terrain mod, which I hasten to add was not designed by myself!. This is just that units pay no movement cost for moving up elevations. However, the terrain mod is ESSENTIAL if you want to play DGNam. Without the terrain mod, DGNam will not work. I have recently fixed this movement error, and I have sent the corrected movement files to majog. As far as I now he has not yet made this correction available for download"
