Couple of things you want to discuss with you opponent before play is use of helicopters especially as relates to use in assaults and landing of units.
Based on discussion with a number of opponents recommend the following rules be in use:
1. Helicopters may not assault alone or loaded. They must be used with at least one infantry or armor type unit as part of the assault or in a hex adjacent to the hex being assaulted.. This includes support units like like mortar units (yes they can be used). Not allowed empty trucks or other non-firing transports. Face it in real combat Huey's and chinooks only provided cover fire and transportation. Would you really risk a several million dollar vehicle to take out a couple of soldiers.
2. Landing of helicopters (especially to pick up or drop units) should only be done in open areas. According to may ex vets this was any area with 20yrds of open ground. Since the map is a 250 sq mtr hex and cannot represent that well you can load or unload anywhere but in heavy jungle.
3. Fast roping: As the game does not allow for fast roping from helicopters I suggest parachute drops be used to represent fast roping. This will have to be programmed in at the start of a scn and added as re-enforcements.
4. No using of helicopters or other aircraft to hold a vp hex. Remember these units would have been in the air and moving. If you run out of movement points that is considered ok.
5. Read all the scenario rules up front. Several of the VN scenarios have special rules like which LZ you must land at, extra points for extraction (rescue) of certain units, and penalties for not doing something.
6. Remember helicopters have a high point value (although based on cost in my opinion not high enough) and may be needed throughout the game to transport reenforcements.
