Hi - My name is Mike and I've been collecting sports autographs since the 1970's. This will be a website that concentrates on Sports Autographs through the mail. I received some through the mail autographs of some of my favorite athletes by writing to them in care of their respective teams. I did not know what an sase (self-addressed stamped envelope) was, and I did not send in any pictures or cards for them to sign. I was lucky enough to receive autograph photos from some of the biggest stars, coaches, and managers of the '70's like Nolan Ryan, Pete Rose, Roger Staubach, Bart Starr, Bobby Orr, Denis Potvin, Yogi Berra, Bobby Murcer, Brooks Robinson, Eddie Murray, Earl Weaver, Steve Largent, etc. I stopped collecting after starting college, but I still kept all of my old autographs.
About 20 years ago, I was given a copy of Jack Smalling's Baseball Address book and I was once again hooked. I started writing mostly to retired Yankees from the 1950's and was thrilled to see that many of these former players quickly returned my cards signed. Some of the autographs I received in those days were from Hank Bauer, Moose Skowron, Dr. Bobby Brown, Gil McDougald, Bob Kuzava, and Jerry Coleman. When Topps released its 1953 Archives set, I started getting signatures from players on other teams (I also liked getting signatures on TCMA's Stars of the 50s and 60s).
I now have thousands of autographed cards, photos and other items. My collection has been greatly aided by Mark from Mark's Signing Bonus (the first person to offer non-baseball addresses to me over the web), Harvey Meiselman's Sports Addresses Books, and the SportsCollectors.net website. I have included links for all of these.
Thanks!
Mike
Billy Gardner - 3 of 3
Dan Giese - 2 of 2 - in c/o New York Yankees
Herman Franks - 3 of 3

Rollie Sheldon - 3 of 3
Bruce Taylor - 2 of 2
Les McCrabb - 3 of 2 - he included this photo copy picture with my two index cards

Dan Vossler - 1 of 2 - He did not sign my index card, but he signed his rookie card. All I need now is Craig Swan, and I'll mail this out to him on Monday.

Barry Foote - 3 of 3
Bill Almon - 4 of 4
Jim Howarth - 1 of 1
Rick Henninger - 3 of 2 - he included this nice signed postcard.
Foote, Almon, and Henninger all signed multi-player rookie cards for me which I am putting right back in the mail for other players to sign.

Dick Anderson - 2 of 2 - I am actually a little disappointed in this success. A couple of years ago, I sent out a Topps card already signed by Mike Wagner and Bobby Bryant, which I never got back. I noticed that other collectors that sent out requests at that same time also did not get a return. He started to sign again shortly afterwards, so I decided to try again. I sent out the same card (this time without the other two signatures), and Mr. Anderson replaced that card with a Topps Fan Favorites card. I guess he does not like signing multi-signed cards!
Bob Cryder - 2 of 2

Terry Kennedy - 3 of 3 - in c/o San Antonio Missions. I took a chance and sent out this father/son card that his father had signed for me years ago (Bob Kennedy passed away in 2005). I was very glad when Terry returned these cards to me.

Mickey Klutts - 2 of 2 - he also signed his 1978 Topps rookie card, but he actually started to sign under Paul Molitor's picture and then signed under his own. (I had gotten the 1977 rookie card signed some time ago).
Tommy McMillan - 2 of 2 - he signed his rookie card that was previously signed by Klutts.
Ed Ott - 3 of 3 - in c/o N.J. Jackels independent minor league team.
Lance Rautzhan - 2 of 2
Callix Crabbe - 1 of 1
I was very surprised to find out that former Raider and Hall of Famer Gene Upshaw passed away from Pancreatic cancer. Apparently he was diagnosed with the disease only a few days ago. Mr. Upshaw had become a controversial figure in recent years because of the problems many former NFL players were having getting disability payments from the union. Hopefully, fans will remember him more for his domination on the football field.

I just got back from a trip to Colorado and I had 30 sases waiting for me! It will take me a few days to catch up, especially since I am having difficulty loading scans (I get some sort of error each time I try to load them which causes my internet connection to close).
I caught a game at Coors Field - D-Backs vs. Rockies - and saw future Hall of Famer Randy Johnson pick up a win. Coors Field is a very nice park to see a game, and Colorado is definitely a very scenic state. On a humerous note: I've been to hundreds of games, but somehow have never had the opportunity to catch a foul ball during a game. It started to rain heavily at one point during the game, so thousands of fans, including my wife, took shelter under the stands. I decided to check on her and left my seat for about ten minutes. When I returned I found out a foul ball landed 5 seats to my right and the ball would have been mine since those people had left their seats, too. Evidently, some kid ran up nearly ten rows to finally grab the ball!
Norm Willey - 2 of 2
Danny Klassen - 1 of 1
Frank Ricelli - 1 of 1 - he signed his rookie card already signed by Ron Diorio. Unfortunately, I do not have current addresses for Freiselben & Shanahan so I'll hold onto this card for now.

Larry Haney - 3 of 3 - I sent this request out before I purchased the Seattle Pilots card set that I have recently been sending out for autographs. I guess I'll wait a while before I try Mr. Haney on his Pilots card.
Doug Konieczny - 2 of 2

Joe DiGangi - 3 of 2 - Mr. DiGangi was the Yankees bullpen catcher from the days of Ruth & Gehrig up until 1942 and World War II.
Chris Malec - 1 of 1 - in c/o Trenton Thunder
Colin Curtis - 1 of 1 - in c/o Trenton Thunder
Andy Merchant - 3 of 2 - he also signed an extra photo that I offered to him
Tyrone Hill - 2 of 2
Greg Litton - 3 of 3

Pete Case - 2 of 2
Johnny Roland - 2 of 2
Brian Bass - 1 of 1 - in c/o Twins
Michael Paulk - 1 of 2 - in c/o Modesto Nuts. He kept my index card.

Mike Hegan - 3 of 3
Jody Davis - 2 of 2 - in c/o Daytona Cubs
Lonnie Smith - 3 of 2 - he also signed a card that I offered him to keep
Michael Bowden - 1 of 1 - in c/o Pawtucket Red Sox
Nick Blackburn - 1 of 1 - in c/o Minnesota Twins
Ross Baumgarten - 2 of 2
Lou Skizas - 1 of 1

Art Pennington - 2 of 2
Eugenio Velez - 1 of 1 - in c/o S.F. Giants
Matt Cusick - 1 of 1 - in c/o Tampa Yankees
Jim Cheyunski - 2 of 2

Phil Coke - 1 of 1 - in c/o Scranton Yankees
Glenn Brummer - 3 of 3
Don Bryant - 2 of 2

Mike Gardella - 2 of 1 - former Yankees minor leaguer sent an additional card
Len Boehmer - 2 of 2
Bud Black - 1 of 1 - in c/o Padres
Lars Anderson - 1 of 1 - in c/o minor league team
Doug Barkley - 2 of 2 - Mr. Barkley replaced my index card with a nice copy of his regular Parkhurst tall boy card.

Bill Mooneyham - 3 of 3
Randy Lerch - 3 of 3
Phil Roof - 3 of 3
Glenn Abbott - 2 of 2 - in c/o Portland Beavers
Rich Wingo - 2 of 2 - in c/o of his AIG office

Mike Willis - 2 of 2 - he signed his rookie card already signed by Gary Wheelock & Jim Otten. I'm not going to chance sending it to Mike Krukow (unless it's a paid signing)
Michael Anton - 1 of 1 - envelope got wet at some point and my address had become totally unreadable. Luckily for me, I also put my address as the return address. The postal service had a note on the envelope stating they were returning it to me because the mailing address was not readable. The card also got wet, but it did not affect the signature on the card. Thankfully, this is a glossy card - if this was a card like the ones prior to the mid '90s, I'm sure it would have been completely ruined.

Just heard that a couple of players from the 1950's passed away - Chuck Stobbs and Leroy Wheat. Both players had cards in the popular Topps Archives sets and were very accomodating to fans. They will be missed.

Jack Billingham - 3 of 3 - He also completed my 1968 rookie card
Paul Foytack - 3 of 3 - He has been nearly automatic as a signer, but I got no response the first time I tried (at least seven or eight years ago)

Steve Shea - 2 of 2
Ron Diorio - 3 of 2 - he added a signed photo, a small black & white card (unsigned), and asked me where I got the information about a particular game he pitched (www.baseball-reference.com)
Scotti Madison - 1 of 1
Tom MacLeod - 2 of 2

Gary Lavelle - 3 of 3 - he signed his rookie card that was already signed by Jim Otten. I'm now sending it to Doug Konieczny for the last signature (the 4th player on the card, Eddie Solomon, is deceased).
Tony LaRussa - 2 of 2 - future HOFer signed in c/o the Cardinals
Brett Pill - 1 of 1 - in c/o San Jose Giants
JoJo Townsell - 1 of 2 - he did not sign the index card
Randy McMillan - 2 of 2 - Unfortunately, he signed both cards on the back.

Greg Porter - 2 of 2 - in c/o Scranton Yankees
Jim Fairey - 2 of 3 - he does not sign blank index cards

I went to the Staten Island Yankees - Brooklyn Cyclones game tonight. The Switch-pitching Pat Venditte pitched an inning, but he gave up a two run homer and another run in his one inning. Before the game, I was able to get 12 Yankees to sign the autograph page of my program. They did not have a team set available and I only had cards for a couple of players so I decided to have them sign this page instead. I was able to get the following players: Dan Kapala, Steve Strausbaugh, Taylor Grote, Jacinto Gonell, Mike Lyon, Jason Kiley, Nick Asselin, David Adams, Cory Arbiso, Andrew Shive, Melky Mesa, and Luke Greinke.

Marty Pattin - 3 of 3
Thomas Hottovy - 1 of 1 - in c/o Portland Sea Dogs
Randy Wright - 2 of 2

I just found out that Yankee fans lost Bobby Murcer, one of their all-time favorites. Bobby was my favorite player when I was a kid, and I will miss him greatly.

Jerry Coleman - 2 of 2 - he also signed my copy of his book
Scott Deal - in c/o his minor league team

Randy Velarde - 2 of 2
Stan Royer - 2 of 2
Bill Virdon - 3 of 3
Jim Small - 2 of 2
Plus I received two signed Nate Colbert cards from a mail order.

Chris Stewart - 2 of 2 - in c/o Scranton Yankees
Dave Geisel - 3 of 3
Bill Bathe - 1 of 1

I went to see the Scranton Yankees play the Columbus Clippers today. The Yankees won on a three run homer by Cody Ransom in the bottom of the 8th. I was able to pick up 5 autographs: Chris Basak, Jeff Karstens, Yurendell de Caster, Jason Brown, and Tommy Murphy. Unfortunately, I did not have a card of Murphy so I had him sign this misprinted Tristar Projections card.

"thanks to our fear of death in this country I won't have to die — I'll 'pass away.' Or I'll 'expire,' like a magazine subscription. If it happens in the hospital they'll call it a 'terminal episode.' The insurance company will refer to it as 'negative patient care outcome.' And if it's the result of malpractice they'll say it was a 'therapeutic misadventure." - George Carlin
Just heard that George Carlin died yesterday. No matter how you phrase it, it's truly a sad day.

Eddie Fisher - 4 of 3 - This was an interesting success. Mr. Fisher did not use my sase, and I quickly found out why. When I opened the envelope, the first thing I noticed was a badly damaged 1960 Topps card which I assumed was damaged in transit by the postal service. After I took out the remaining items, I found out the truth. Mr. Fisher's dog had gotten into the mail and chewed up my cards! He was kind enough to include a signed postcard and apologized for the damaged cards. I guess dogs really could eat someone's homework.

Congratulations to the newest members of Hockey's Hall of Fame: Glenn Anderson, Igor Larionov, Ray Scapinello, and Ed Chynoweth.

Former Pittsburgh Steeler great Dwight White passed away today. He his the second member of the famed Steel Curtain defensive line to pass away this year (Ernie Holmes died in January).

Ryan Pope - 2 of 2 - in c/o Tampa Yankees
Lee Gronkiewicz - 1 of 1 - in c/o Red Sox spring training
Jeff Bailey - 1 of 1 - also in c/o Red Sox spring training. Interestingly, both requests were mailed out on the same day in February. I wonder if their mail was recently forwarded to their minor league team.

Lee Bales - 2 of 2
Ed Barnowski - 2 of 2 - I am sending this rookie card out to Larry Haney tomorrow.

Doug Clemens - 2 of 2
Greg Goossen - 3 of 3
Jack Warner - 1 of 1 - I'm sending this out to Paul Schaal tomorrow.
Larry Little - 2 of 2 - He completed my 1974 Topps All-Pro card previously signed by fellow Hall of Famer, Tom Mack.
Cliff Brannon - 1 of 1
Jim Strickland - 2 of 3 - he also signed my SSPC card, but not the index card

Zach McAllister - 1 of 1 - in c/o Charleston River Dogs
Derek Gooden - 1 of 1 - I used Meiselman's 2008 minor league list
Al Greene - 2 of 2 - His signature completes this 1980 Tigers rookie card.

Austin Krum - 1 of 1 - in c/o Charleston River Dogs
David Knight - 1 of 2 - he did not sign my index card

Ed Husmann - 2 of 2 - This was an interesting success. I received a business sized envelope with his return address label on it and opened it expecting to find an additional autograph or photo. Inside was only my letter, which Mr. Husmann had written on responding to my statements and questions. While this was nice, I was disappointed that my 1965 Topps card was not enclosed (I thought he might have kept it). However, I then noticed one of my regular sases had the same postmark and there was my card (an index card which included the inscription "1960 Cowboys"). Mr. Husmann must have decided to respond to my letter after sealing my sase.
Tom Kelley - 3 of 3
Charlie James - 2 of 2
Tom Mack 2 of 2 - I sent out the 1974 All-Pro card to fellow Hall of Famer Larry Little

Garry Roggenburk - 3 of 3
Rip Hawkins - 2 of 2
Garry Lyle - 2 of 2 - Note: His first name is misspelled on this card
Ron Pritchard - 2 of 2

Walt Suggs - 2 of 2
Maxie Baughan - 1 of 2 - he did not return the index card
Wayne Twitchell - 2 of 3 - He did not sign his 1972 Topps rookie card (which he apparently refuses to sign for some reason)
Joe Federspiel - 2 of 2

Gene Prebola - 3 of 2 - Mr. Prebola signed my 8x10 and wrote and signed a letter about his brief time with the Jets

Bill McCool - 1 of 1 - You've got to love that name!
Gary Boyd - 2 of 2 - I will send this card out to Russ Nagelson tomorrow.
Steve Fanning - 1 of 1

Bill Fahey - 2 of 2 - His signature completes my 1972 rookie card.
Dan Dickel - 2 of 2
Larry McCarren - 2 of 3 - he did not sign my index card
Bob Hyland - 2 of 2 - he apparently used a dry erase marker. Although it looks fine on the index card, the signature on the football card has nearly totally wiped off.
Jim Bailey - 1 of 2 - he did not sign my index card.
Warren Koegel - 1 of 2 - he also did not sign my index card. I'm a little disappointed since I was going to try to get his brother Pete (who played baseball) to sign it as well.

Wayne Rasmussen - 1 of 2 - He did not sign the index card. I used Meiselman's 2007 list and my first attempt came back "RTS - attempted not known". I checked the white pages and they confirmed the address. I tried again and received this card in three weeks.
Dick Egan - 2 of 2

Scott Cepicky - 1 of 1 - (yes, he is related to Matt Cepicky - they are cousins)

Travis Metcalf - 1 of 1 - in c/o Rangers spring training
Ivan DeJesus - 1 of 1 - in c/o Cubs spring training. Unfortunately, he swapped my SSPC card for this 1984 Topps card. I guess he does not sign the SSPCs because they were unlicensed by MLBPA.
Robb Thomas - 2 of 2
Tom Owens - 1 of 2 - he did not sign the index card.

Steve Blass - 2 of 3 - he kept my Upper Deck B.A.T. card
Ed Bauta - 2 of 2

Royal Clayton - 1 of 1

Hal Haydel - 2 of 2 - I will probably not get this card completed unless Steve Brye does a public signing since he does not seem to sign through the mail
Ed Mickelson - 3 of 2 - Mr. Mickelson had the last RBI for the old St. Louis Browns before they moved to Baltimore.

Mike Bruhert - 2 of 2
Sonny Dixon - 3 of 2 - he also signed a short note apologizing for his handwriting as he has difficulty holding pens (I would assume due to arthritis)

Neal Arnold - 1 of 1 - former NJ Cardinals pitcher signed using the address from Meiselman's new minor league address list

Jim McNamara - 1 of 2 - he did not sign the index card (which fewer players do these days)

John Beck - 2 of 2 - I sent this card in c/o the Dolphins during the summer. I received this card and a signed index card

Eddie Basinski - 2 of 2 - he kept my blank filler card, but double signed my letter
Herb Plews - 3 of 2 - he also signed my letter

Dave Szott - 1 of 1 - I met Mrs. Szott at my part-time job (as soon as she said her last name, I asked her if her husband played pro football) and she gave me an unsigned religious card of Mr. Szott. I mailed out the card and he quickly signed it for me.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!
Gary Thomasson - 3 of 3
Dan Gakeler - 1 of 1 - I sent him a duplicate of this card to keep.

Julian Javier - 2 of 2 - Sent to his home in the Dominican Republic, I added a couple of dollars to pay for the return postage. The envelope got a little beat up causing slight creases to the cards, but still a nice success.

Ed Kirkpatrick - 2 of 2 - Mr. Kirkpatrick was involved in a serious accident which explains his signature. I'm very appreciative that he still signs for his fans.
David Lattin - 2 of 2 - "Big Daddy" Lattin was the physical force on the historic UTEP NCAA Championship team featured in the movie "Glory Road". I mailed this out in January and I was pleasantly surprised when this showed up in the mail.

Jake Gibbs - 4 of 3 - He signed my '64 Rookie card previously signed by Tom Metcalf and also included a signed 1971 Yankees postcard.
Terry Humphrey - 3 of 3
Al Olmsted - 2 of 2 - Trying to decide whether or not to send out this rookie card to Andy Rincon. According to Sports Collectors http://sportscollectors.net/Default.aspx he was a reliable signer until this fall. Tito Landrum has been hit or miss. I may just hold on to this the way it is.
