INTRODUCTION

Energy is one of the most important issues that todays society faces.  Every day you interact with some form of electric apliance. There is only a finite amount of oil left in the earth to keep gas power production plants online.   Every thing in the modern world needs electricity and each day we become more and more dependant on electronics.  The entire civilization as we know it today would come to a grinding hault with out electricity.  Well there are other methods of power production like nuclear and coal plants which make up most of the worlds power production.  But these are dirty and highly hazordous means of producing power.  In a world where the question is in the air about whether or not  we humans are causing global warming.  So just in case we need to be responsible and choose more realiable and cleaner sources of energy production.  Some clean and reliable forms of energy production are Hydro-electric dams, Geothermal, Solar Voltaic Cells, and Wind Turbines.

Wind turbines rely on the wind to rotate blades which are attatched to a shaft of a generator.  Many turbines spin a gearbox that rotates the generator more times for every revolution of the blades (this makes more electricity).  The wind is not every where but it is very clean.  The wind is a product of the sun heating the air.  The sun is scheduled to stick arround for many many more years, making it a very good reliable source of power.

MY WIND PROJECT

I designed and built my own wind turbine.  The reason for doing this was to have a method of automaticly watering my vegetable garden.  The turbine charges a 12 volt battery that powers a timer and a water pump.  The timer turns on the water pump for a certain amount of time.  The pump gets the water from a storage tank and then pumps the water through drip lines that water the vegetables.  That is the way it was intended to work.  I had finished the turbine and its tower and was toward the end of a month of testing when a 80 mph gust destroyed it.  I did not get to build the water pumping part of it before it was destroyed.  It was producing about 12 volts of electricity in most winds.  It also was very sensitve to low winds, turning in breezes that you could barely feel.  Above is a picture of it up and rotating.  Check out more pictures of my wind turbine project by going to my pictures. Donations

I am trying to build a turbine that will replace this turbine that fell victim to the wind.  I have ran out of financial support for this project.  So I am accepting donations to help kick start this project.  Any amount of money is accepted greatfully! Thank you for your kind help.
