New Book For 2009!

Tennis Professional Vince Spadea's Undiagnosed Ailment to be Revealed for the First Time in a New Book, "The Greatest Comeback"

ATP Tour tennis pro Vince Spadea owns the longest losing streak and arguably the biggest comeback in tennis history. In a new book titled "The Greatest Comeback," Spadea and his sport psychologist will attempt to inspire millions by revealing for the first time ever the undiagnosed ailment that contributed to his plummet in the rankings, and how proper clinical diagnosis and treatment contributed to a complete reversal of the longest slump in history.

Palm Beach, FL (PRWEB) February 28, 2008 -- ATP Tour veteran tennis professional Vince Spadea still owns the longest losing streak in the history of tennis, having lost 21 straight matches between October of 1999 and June of 2000. His ranking disastrously plummeted from 19 in the world to 227 until he got help, built a new support team, and engineered arguably the greatest comeback ever. He rose again to 18 in the world and won his first title in Scottsdale in 2004. While many have heard the story about Spadea's record losing streak and equally amazing resurgence, nobody has yet heard the entire story or the perhaps the most important part of it. The full story has been guarded very carefully by Spadea until now. While Vince benefited from the motivation provided in mental coaching, a brand new team of helpers, and a new attitude, the book about to be co-authored by Spadea and his longtime sport psychologist and sometimes traveling coach, Dr. John F. Murray (www.JohnFMurray.com), will finally tell the whole story.  Continued in link:

Hounding Michael Vick

FLUSHING, N.Y. -- My Sunday conversation with Vince Spadea Sr. began with Dolphins and moved, not surprisingly, to Michael Vick.

Vince Sr., who, unlike his kid, doesn't wear funny clothes or rap during the most mundane conversations, desperately wants his Dolphins to climb out of the morass, and he seemed pretty optimistic about Cam Cameron's coaching skills.

But then we turned abruptly to Vick, as Vince wondered -- sympathetically, I thought -- how long I thought the recalcitrant former employe of the Atlanta Falcons would have to spend in jail.

Jail, I replied? I'd rather see him in a kennel for 12 to 18 months. And, no, I didn't think he wold be back in the NFL, either.

I have two German shepherds and, though there have been times I'd like to pull Murphy's ears for barking at every dog that walks by the house, I was as disgusted as most everyone else at Vick's complete lack of respect for man's best friend.

Wait a minute, said Vince. In China, they eat dogs. Good point, I thought. OK, so different cultures, different appetites, you might say. Vince then pointed out that the United States is importing billions of dollars worth of goods from China, including lead-laced toys and, who knows, maybe even ground dog in the kibble they send over here.

This conversation was getting a bit tiresome, so I thought I'd end it with a simple question which would make my point. "Vince," I asked. "You've been to China. Have you ever eaten dog?"

"I don't know," he said.

In The Mailbag From The Vindawg

Direct to us from the Vince of Spades himself:

By Roman Wolfe   AllHipHop.com  Sunday, July 1, 2007
Outspoken American tennis player Vince Spadea currently has his eyes set on a Wimbledon title with doubles partner Vania King, but the 32-year-old pro hopes to earn another title as well - recorded rapper.

Spadea, who is the #5 American seed and # 64 in the world of Tennis, raps under the moniker "Vin Dawg" and has recorded a new track honoring the Wimbledon tennis event titled "Wimbledon Rap."

"I did not grow up in the ’hood," Spadea told UK newspaper The Sun. "I do not claim I have an urban influence. Sometimes I’ll rap to other players but I don’t ram it down their throats. I did a rap on Andy Roddick at the Olympics and I do stuff on a tennis channel in America."

On "Wimbledon Rap" Spadea rhymes: "Roger trying to an ace, crowds filled with pretty face/Hotties trying to give a hug and I'm giving them the shrug/Cause I'm the menace of tennis at the Oscars of service winners/It's time for Wimbledon, mingling in England, where's my friends, where's my pims, where's Tim Henman, royal attendance, where's Rich Branson, where's my mansions/"

The clever rap goes on to name check a number of popular tennis players, including Roger Federer, Anna Kournikova, Andre Agassi and others.

The self anointed "tennis rapper" will begin working on a new, untitled album in the near future.

"I want to do my best to achieve respect and do something I'm proud of," Spadea said. "I don't want to do something pop-ish. I don't want to sell out. I've had offers to do stuff in New York and, in a few weeks, I'll do some tracks to be downloaded off the Internet."

Spadea caused controversy in the world of tennis when he released his book Break Point: The Secret Diary of a Pro Tennis Player in 2006.

Break Point raised eye brows due to Spadea's graphic accounts about the competitive world of tennis, his rivals, personal battles and late night trysts.

Spadea and King will play Frantisek Cermak and Roberta Vinci(ITA) in the 1st round of the Wimbledon doubles tomorrow (July 2).

Respect For Vince's Reason For Rhyme

FOX SPORTS-London-July 1, 2007

RAP is be more in tune with gun-toting gangsters than the tea-sipping members of the genteel All England Club, but American player Vince Spadea is doing his best to bridge the gap at Wimbledon.

Mobsters, guns and drugs it ain't, but outspoken part-time rapper Spadea whose motto, "ain't afraid of ya", has been spewing out his rhymes around the grounds in his special "Wimbledon Rap".

The 32-year-old American No.5 raps about Roger Federer, strawberries and cream, Anna Kournikova, eating scones, Prince William and even doing the laundry with Andre Agassi.

"For a start, it's pretty obvious I'm white. I didn't grow up in the 'hood. I don't claim I have an urban influence," the world No.64 told Britain's The Sun newspaper.

"Sometimes I'll rap to other players but I don't ram it down their throats. I did a rap on Andy Roddick at the Olympics."

Spadea was knocked out of the men's singles first round by Croatia's Ivan Ljubicic, the No.15 seed, but he is still in competition, playing mixed doubles with compatriot Vania King.

He hopes to record an album.

"I want to do my best to achieve respect and do something I'm proud of. I don't want to do something pop-ish. I don't want to sell out," he said.

"I've had offers to do stuff in New York and, in a few weeks, I'll do some tracks to be downloaded off the Internet."

The journeyman pro leads a busy lifestyle.

His book, "Break Point: The Secret Diary of a Pro Tennis Player", upset some of his fellow players with its tales of chasing women while on the tour and hanging out with models.

Federer savours 'crazy good day'

Andrew Baker audio: Tim Henman vows to return | Wimbledon live | SW19 men's and women's seeds

What was Vince Spadea, a former top 20 player, discussing at leisure with a pretty programme seller close to the referee's office?

It soon became clear to anyone standing nearby that he was serenading her with a long-winded rap. The veteran American - catchphrase "Spadea, ain't afraid of ya!" - is truly on song.

He's posted raps on YouTube, put some tracks together in a New York recording studio and taped a hilarious Wimbledon rap for a British red-top.

Here's his ode to Andy Roddick: "Roddick is the hottest product, After I played him, I needed an antibiotic, He's not robotic, But he's patriotic, I had a thought in my head, he hit a serve and I forgot it, Roddick, If he's in a tournament, you boycott it."

Life Outside The Goldfish Bowl

June 30, 2007

Courting a life outside the goldfish bowl

Tennis transforms the otherwise ordinary lives of players at Wimbledon, but there are still some who have an alternative, equally extraordinary talent. Here are the top six alternatively talented players.

Vince Spadea
The American is a man who mixes, like an unorthodox club MC, his tennis career with his equally promising talent as a rap artist. In fact, he might be a better rapper; he holds the record for the most consecutive first-round exits and, true to form, the American ranked No 66 in the world was beaten in the first round on Tuesday by Ivan Ljubicic. He remained at Wimbledon yesterday, where he rapped about his defeat to all who would listen. The Times asked “Vindawg” whether he was able to make up his material as he went along. He replied: “When I make it up on the hoof, I sound like a goof, people hit the roof, but when I write, that’s when it sounds tight, I might be white but I can always recite, I used to feel every night till the morning light.”

Vince’s Wimbledon Rap

Here is a full-length Wimbledon rap from Boca Raton’s most famous tennis-playing rapper, Vince Spadea (courtesy of Ken Rubin).

To give it that You Are There, web-special feel, orginal punctuation direct from Vince’s keyboard is used, except where I have inadvertently mangled it as I put in on the blog:

“Its all in the club, The All England Club, playing singles, mixed and dubs, slugging passing shots and mugs, Roger trying to an ace, crowds filled with pretty face, hotties trying to give a hug,and im giving them the shrug, cause im the menace of tennis at the oscars of service winners, its time for Wimbledon, mingling in England, where my friends wheres my Pims, wheres Tim Henman, royal attendance, where’s Rich Branson, where’s my mansions, if not now then when then,, if not you then who? But I feel I won, cause im chillin in the Sun,selling 4 million, having fun is number one, I’m almost done, but my thoughts are never wrong, Wimby tennis anyone? I aint lying sis, I’m a music scientist. Martina, we will savor like Rod Laver, course I met her, and Sir Edberg, Boris Becker, Having laughs with Steffi Graf , doing laundry with our Andre……. Agassi. Tennis’ Brad and Jolie, has to be, something left to see, Wimbledon, youre my friend, our tradition, you’re our mission til the end.”

Where is first-round opponent Ivan Ljubicic’s Rap-id response?

Oddball Characters On The Tour

Different strokes

Mark Hodgkinson tennis correspondent

Oddball characters on the tennis circuit:

Vince Spadea

The American fancies himself as a hip-hop artist, with many of his raps including the rhyme: "I'm Spadea, I ain't afraid of ya." The Eminem of SW19 is hoping to release an album soon, but in the meantime some of his 'work' can be enjoyed on YouTube.

Dmitry Tursunov

The tour's blogger-in-chief, the Russian has become almost as famous for his online, off-beat musings on atptennis.com as for his huge forehand. He lists his hobbies as "electronic and dance music, sports cars, knitting and collecting walnut shells".

Janko Tipsarevic

Surely the only man on the tour to have a quote from Dostoyevsky tattooed on his arm: "Beauty will save the world." He also enjoys the works of Nietzsche and Goethe. Probably hasn't read much Dan Brown.

Michael Llodra

The Frenchman has been known to strip naked and hide in another player's locker. And he celebrated winning the first doubles title of his career by walking naked off the court.

Patty Schnyder

This Swiss was once coached by a man who told her that her route to world domination would come through drinking several litres of orange juice a day. She then ditched that coach for the private detective her parents had hired to investigate the first man. They are now married.

Liverpool Braced For Spadea

One of the wackiest characters in world tennis is heading for Liverpool this summer. Vitty Cent, Spadea the Gladiatea, Vince Sanity, Vince of Spades... or just plain Vince Spadea, the American returns to the sun-drenched courts of Calderstones Park this June.

Vince Spadea is no stranger to the Liverpool International having been runner-up last year to Xavier Malisse. This year will be his fourth appearance in five years making him almost a permanent fixture.

"I'm really looking forward to coming back to Liverpool," said Vince, who currently has the best record of all the US players on clay this season. "I've played there three times already and I know how good the tournament is. Liverpool is such a welcoming city and I know all the players have a great time there."

Vince isn't your run-of-the-mill tennis player. He's the only rapper on the tour and also wrote a controversial book, Break Point, about life on the ATP tour. He's easy to spot, wearing his trademark base-ball cap with sparkly 'S' logo. For an insight into the world of Spadea check out his web-site, complete with Run DMC hip-hop soundtrack, at http://www.vincespadea.com/

The Liverpool International Tennis Tournament runs from June 12-17th and features a ATP and WTA players event. Tickets are on sale now on this web site or you can book tickets either online at Ticketmaster or call 0870 1690 107.

May 29th, 2007.

Peter Bodo's ESPN Blog

......OK, so let's throw Spadea out of the mix and next down in the rankings we have Nicolas Lapentti. He's an Ecuadorian dude who grew up on clay and struggled in 2006, playing mostly Challenger events in the summer. But despite having learned the game on clay, Lapentti found a way to play a hard-court Challenger in Europe in Segovia, meaning he played as many tournaments on hard last summer as Roddick did on clay this year.....
