Johnny Depp Biography

John Christopher Depp II was born June 9th, 1963, in Owensboro, Kentucky. He is theson of John Christopher Depp, who was a city engineer, and Betty Sue Palmer, who worked as a waitress. Johnny has an older half brother, and half sister, Danny and Debbie Depp. His other sister Christie, is now Johnny’s personal manager. Johnny’s childhood was very different from other kids. His family would move from one house to another, and by the time Johnny had reached the age of 12, he had lived in more than 30 houses. Still living in Kentucky, Johnny went to the Henry D. Perry middle school. His parents decided it was time to move on again, and headed off to Florida.

Johnny hated school, and began hanging out with the wrong crowd. When his mom Betty Sue saw this, she bought Johnny a $25 guitar, Johnny loved it. He would hide away in his bedroom, and proceed to teach himself to play the guitar. As Johnny has said in earlier interviews, it saved him. By the time Johnny had reached 16 or 17 years of age, he dropped out of school. He was bored with school, and thought he had learned nothing from it so, he decided to leave. His passion for music, and guitar playing came first, and that is what he wanted to do the most but, Johnny felt bad at dropping out of school so, he decided to go back. Johnny spoke to the principle at the school, who said that Johnny should follow his dream, his dream and passion being music.

Johnny joined a band who called themselves, The Flame. They managed to get a few gigs at some nightclubs. The band decided to change their name to The Kids, and success followed. They supported Talking Heads, B-52’s, and Iggy Pop.

Then in 1983, Johnny met and fell in love with make-up artist, Lori Anne Allison.

They decided to marry in December 1983, and were married for one year. By this time, the band were not doing so well, and money was tight so, Johnny decided to take on an extra job as a telemarketer, selling pens. Cracks started to appear in Johnny and Lori’s marriage, and they decided to divorce. Then in 1984, Johnny met Nicholas Cage who was also a friend, and who persuaded Johnny to take up acting. Johnny went to his first audition, which was for a horror movie, A Nightmare on Elm Street, directed by Wes Craven. Johnny would play the role of Glen Lantz, who eventually would be killed by child serial killer, Freddie Krueger. Johnny was starting to enjoy acting but, it wasn’t something he wanted to do forever, although the money was good.

Johnny later played in two more movies, Private Resort, and Platoon where he played Jack Marshall, and Private Gator Lerner. Platoon was the film that made Johnny realise, that he was getting the acting bug, and was starting to enjoy it. Johnny was approached to star in a television series called, 21 Jump Street, where he would play an undercover cop named Tom Hanson. Johnny hated being on the show, and being labelled as a teen idol, and on numerous occasions, he would try and get out of his contract. He made fun of his teen idol status by appearing in Cry Baby, a John Waters movie, in which Johnny played Wade ‘Cry Baby ‘ Walker. Then came along Edward Scissorhands, directed by Tim Burton. Edward was a man who had scissors for hands, a man that people would call a freak, an outsider. He lived in a castle with an inventor, who died before he could finish Edward. Avon lady Pegg Bogs, visits the castle on the hill, and brings Edward home with her. At first, people are freaked out by Edward but, they soon warm to him. Alas, the warmth ends up being short lived, and trouble lies ahead for poor Edward. This was the start of a long term friendship between Johnny and Tim, with whom Johnny has made six movies with.
