The Truth 2001

Dennis Greaves used Smashing Time for this tour to promote the "Playground" CD

Paul McCarthy - Backing Vocals

Paul's stage career began at the tender age of 13, when he played the Artful Dodger in London's West End. Since then he has performed regularly for TV, films and theatre.Paul is most well known for teaming up with Tucker in the BBC’s kids’ programme Grange Hill and Tuckers luck, and did a comedy programme for the BBC, but the music was never far behind; he sang solo for a while, had a near miss with Virgin Records and worked with the funk-punk outfit Mondo Trash. Paul sings lead vocals for the band Smashing Time, who in their time have supported Edwin Starr and Nine Below Zero.

Alvin Burrell - Bass

Alvin the bass player comes from the jazz scene. He has played in a variety of bands, from jazz through to rock, including Skintrade (where he played upright bass, but was recently fired!) the Eddie Harvey Big Band, Tall, and Channel D. He is currently working with Smashing Time and other artists in production and various music and video collaborations projects, as well as pushing the musical envelope with his Chapman Stick and developing the official band website!

Bob Guynan - Backing Vocals, Harmonica

Bob is an ex-professional boxer. His other love is music, especially rhythm and blues. He cites Nine Below Zero's Mark Feltham as the reason he started playing the harmonica.

Paul Freeman - Hammond Organ

Paul has previously gigged at The Mean Fiddler and the 100 Club with the band Parade. From playing trombone to tuba, euphonium to recorder, Paul's greatest love is the Hammond organ and it's truly unique sound. Paul started playing keyboards as a wide-eyed young lad of 9, waiting until he was 16 to join his first band, picking up a host of other instruments along the way such as trombone, tuba, guitar and drums. But keyboards would always be his first love. Influenced by the sounds of bands such as the Beatles, Stones and the Who, he joined the band Parade as Hammond organist; The love for that sound has remained with him since, and is key to the freshness of the sound of Smashing Time!

Steve Besemer - Drums

Explosive drummer in the moon mode but also capable of more subtle styles. Stickman with London popsters Smashing Time and formerly The B Team. Steve is a familiar face at the scooterist events the length of the country. Steve has spent 18 months playing drums for top tribute band The Jamm

Jim Guynan - Guitar, Backing Vocals

Singer/songwriter/guitarist with Smashing Time and formerly East London's Major Flood. Influences run from early The Who and the Beatles to Paul Simon and Talk Talk. His record collection is equally eclectic. Has played in bands since his teens.  Likes The Beatles, The Who, and a properly cut suit.
