HELLO AND WELCOME
Demya stud is a small select stud of mini rex rabbits based in northamptonshire in the uk. Formly known as BunnyTreeStud we decided to make a fresh start with a fresh stud name when my partner also became involved with the breeding and showing of the buns.
Here at demya stud we are working with two colours of mini rex. Black and chocolate in both broken and self.We also hope to be adding blue mini rex in broken and self to the shed towards the end of 2007.
It seems we have come a long way since we first started breeding a few years ago. I know then we never thought the way we do now about our rabbits. Our original breeding stock were not checked for type, coat or colour and we think the main reason we would get a a new rabbit was because we liked it. Its only been really in the past year that we have become intrested in the showing side of rabbits and with this a whole new lot of knowledge was to be learnt.
On returning to our shed after visiting our first show we realised we had a lot of work to do if we wanted to get our mini rex up to the standard of those shown on the judges table. We knew we would have to reduce our number of stock knowing some were not up to producing a show bun and probably never would be. So our plans began and with a successful mating in may 2006, and the safe arrival of a litter of 5 mini rex a month later in june our hopes of a show quality broken mini rex increased. By the time the litter was 6 weeks old we had decided to keep a chocolate broken doe and see how she turned out. Not quite sure if we were doing the right thing, or even sure if she was worthy of the show table we decided to get a few other opinions.
Here at demyastud we also breed Netherland dwarfs. This breed at the moment is fairly new to us so we do not show with them. We hope to start showing them in the future but for the time being we will continue to learn with them from breeding and gathering knowledge from lots of other people
Lastly our name, i hear you ask "demya stud???" well let me explain we decided to change our stud name as BunnyTreeStud was the name of my old stud before my partner became involved.We spent the whole of one night thinking of a suitable name and didnt really amount to anything. Then it clicked, there is two of us that co own the stud which is half and half. We work with brokens which are always two colours which is half and half again and demya is half and half of our two girls names demi and kenya. It sort of stuck after coming out as a joke to begin with! So it has now became our stud name and we hope to be showing in this name as well next year.
