Multi-Species and Same-Species Role Players
This would be the page about the difference between Multi-Species and Same-Species only role players.

Now, there are different 'degrees' of "Same-Species" role players. I have managed to put together a small list of what I find to be appropriately stated.

Personally, I disagree with 'Same Species Only' Role Plays. Of course this usually only inculdes those of Virtual Pet Role Plays, however.

First Degree - 'Prefers' to role play their pets with their own species for one reason or another -- usually involving personal preference, but will allow other species as well, just isn't as enthused about role playing with them.
I personally find it a bit shallow to treat other species differently just because you personally like the looks of one better than others.

Second Degree - Role plays a "Species", such as a Canis Role Play or a Lupe Role Play, and only allows others similar to that pet - I.E. other canines - in the role play as well, but no others.
I still find this shallow and don't know why people care what a pet looks like or is related to. Why do they have to be in the same species family group to meet each other?

Third Degree - Passing 'Shallow' and entering 'Prejudice'.
Role plays a "Species" just as before, but only allows that certain species in and allows their pets to meet with NOTHING but their own species, again for usual personal-preference reasons only.
I think this is really rude to choose your characters' acquaintances on looks or 'breeds' alone and nothing else.
Fourth Degree - Past 'Shallow' AND 'Prejudice', now it's just plain racist. ONLY allows their pets to meet, role play with and befriend with others of their own kind or color/style/element; or simply 'own color', such as "Baby Pet Role Players" found on Neo.
Very similar to Third Degree, only rejecting 'worthless' pets that are not 'worth' enough, such as (Keno) Natural, or (Neo) Blue, Yellow, Red and Green.
I think this is absolutely rediculous that people think that because their pet is 'worth' more than others, it is too 'good' for those that are not in equal the cost that made it look like it currently does.

I, very personally, am a proud multi-species role player, be it animals, kenopets, neopets or any and all others.
I find it very shallow to reject a pet because it looks different than your own, and so far, have found NO GOOD REASON to do it that didn't involve a personal liking of the looks of a certain species.
Please don't get me wrong, or put words in my mouth.
I have NOTHING against a same-species role play once in a while; there's nothing wrong for your pets to meet its own kind...but what I DO find rude is when people ONLY allow their pets to meet their own kind, or prefer their own kind above those that aren't of its specific breed.
It's so horribly unrealistic, simply because their dislike of a certain species, or perhaps their overly obsessive like for their character's species to only know its own kind. Pfft, bull. -_-

In my opinion, just because two pets look similar, that doesn't mean they'll get along any better than they would if it were a cruz with a lios or chia with a moehog.
Also, please don't feed me this crap about how difficult it is for you to do a different-species RP.
It's no different than role playing your lupe with another lupe or your emitai with another emitai than it is when you toss it in with a draik, aisha or uni or a leopis, guanaco or julaxis; since YOUR pet acts relatively the same.
It's no different unless you're powerplaying and having to use the other character too; or using a different species than you're used to, and in that case, you shouldn't be role playing at all.

I say, use whatever pet or species you like, but don't expect me to do the same just because you are. This is my main pet peeve other than wolfscripting, and I think I actually hate this one just a bit more, since I've found wolfscript users - the intelligent ones, anyway - to get easily embarrassed when they realize that they just described their female canine as an explosive device. (More invormation on the Wolfscripting link.)

Either way, I've found that most "Species" role players just plain think that their pet is too 'good' for another, and reject a pet because THEY dislike what color or species it is.
For example, if the person has a personal dislike for the looks of lennies or reperes, they instantly do not want to role play their oh-so-regal pet with one.

I despise prejudice or racist little jerks like that who believe that their pets get along just "SO MUCH" better when all they ever meet are others of their own kinds.

This is NOT true. Most who do that have never even TRIED a multi-species role play, so how would they know WHAT their pet would "prefer"? They're just introducing their own personal dislike of a specific species onto their pet's character, so of course they're going to be incooperative if they were to try a multi-species role play. e_e

And even the ones that HAVE 'tried' and 'rejected' it, they usually do it on a personal thing. "Oh, they're too different...yours can fly and mine can't. MINES MAD AT YOURS NOW! YOURS SUCKS! I HATE YOURS! That's it, he's only RPing with his own kind from now on, you stupid little flying-pet-owner, you!"
Simply lovely, no? -__-;;

Now, I can understand this if your pet is, for example, a water-going pet. If it lives out in the ocean, it's very likely to meet another that can't swim unless it's on a boat or something...that's fine; if the setting were out in the water, I wouldn't be picking a land-goer anyway.
"Omg. Help. I randomly got tossed out in the water and I can't swim real good. Glublub."
-__- I'm not that stupid..

Anyway, my main issue with Same-Species-Only'ers is that usually, they can't come up with a decent reason as to WHY they reject pets that aren't the same as theirs anyway.

Usually, it's the "Oh, well, my lupe's natural instinct is to hunt, so he would attack an ixi or something..." Now, did I SAY I was offering an ixi? No, I didn't; and if I did, then that's my own problem. My pet would just have to fend for itself.
But MOST of these people wont even let their pet role play with a something of a different species, since they don't "look" the same.
Not only this; but an important thing is..THIS IS A VIRTUAL PET SITE. NOT REAL LIFE.

Your lupe is not a wolf; your canis is no dog, and that is a uni or capistro, not a horse.
See that ixi there? (No, of course not, because I'm just making a statement, but shut up for now.) It's an IXI. Not a deer or goat.
And that bruce, nira, koi and leopis over there...you're not a penguin, domestic house-cat, fish, or tiger/lion/leopard/snow leopard/cougar/puma/jaguar/cheetah/ANY large cat.

You guys are all WHATEVER YOU ARE. You may RESEMBLE or be SIMILAR to it; but you are not wild animals; and like it or not, if your lupe goes around eating ixies, it is a CANNIBAL, as they are both NEOPETS.
I don't CARE if they aren't the same 'breed' of pets; they're still the same, and you disgust me.
Whoa. o_o Long rant/section.

Anyway, I've begun interviewing other role players who prefer their characters to be acquainted with their own kind, be it "only their own kind" or just "personally prefer own kind above others". ^^

The interviews are listed below with the permission of whoever is being interviewed.

UPDATE- I've made an entirely different page for interviews. If you'd like to read them, please go here.

Again, I have NOTHING against same-species role plays...I just don't think you should limit your pet to only its own kind or others similar to itself. I just don't.

And personally, I think it's less "realistic" than everyone else says same-species role plays are.
How does a wandering pet just 'happen' to only meet others of its own kind? Seriously; though it may come across others of its own species and such, it's like, a one in a billion chance that your pet would NEVER even come in contact with something that wasn't its own kind.
