The Delphic Fraternity is one of the oldest existing social fraternities in the United States. It was originally founded in 1871 as the Delphic Society in upstate New York. According to Wikipedia's list of social fraternities, Delphic would be the 34th oldest existing social fraternity in the United States. Delphic eventually expanded to eight historic chapters throughout New York and Pennsylvania. By the late 1930s, only one chapter remained officially active: the Zeta chapter at New Paltz, NY. The Theta chapter was formed at Binghamton University in 2003. An interest group of the fraternity was formed in the spring of 2009 at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA.
In 1987, after about 15 years of dormancy, the Zeta chapter at New Paltz was re-established as Delphic of Gamma Sigma Tau Fraternity. It is the second fraternity in the nation to officially promote multicultural diversity within collegiate institutions and the first multicultural fraternity to be formed on the East Coast.
This site will focus on historical references of The Delphic Fraternity. It will also chronicle future changes and advancements in the organization.
