Our farm has been boarding for about 5 going on 6 years now. We started out with just our own horses and then we were asked to board a few for a friend and decided to open our doors to the public also. We love running a boarding facility and the different personalities of the horses and owners that come with it. We do select our applicants carefully by how our personalities click and prior boarding experiences to make sure that we don't run into problems. Prior to our move our boarders had been with us for 3 to 5 years and we still have 3 (4 horses) that made the move.
We do also run a self funded equine rescue (we are careful of keeping our numbers low so as not to over tax our barn and grazing areas - which are rotated frequently). We do true rescues, we take in the sick, lame and emaciated animals then slowly bring them back to a normal and healthy life style where they can be fully loved and used at the job at hand. We have currently done 24 rescues with everyone having found a forever home.
It's very peaceful and relaxed around here with a great group of boarders that have been with us mostly long term. We pride ourselves on being "drama" free.
We were very successful in the Gobles area for many years but we kept looking for greener pastures and more space. We did finally find that here in Fennville and we made the move finally in 12/08. We now have 23 stalls, tack area, an old wash rack area that is in need of some repair before functional, an old office in need of some repair/heat and overall brightening before that will be used, a smaller viewing room also needs a little tlc, 16 acres of LUSH green pasture, 4 acres of dry lots for overnights and winter, an outdoor arena come spring, plus a full size grass/turf race track. We have 24 acres of woods for trailriding on site plus, miles of cornfields and back roads also. We are close to Silver Creek (camping), Allegan County State land (lots of trails and open spaces).
Due to our move we lost 3 of our boarders but are still in close contact with them and are very fortunate to be able to call them our friends. I'm sure we'll see lots of them this summer when we all camp and hang out together.
