Display Pictures | Signatures | Backgrounds | Other | Tutorials PrintScreen Method In this tutorial, I'm going to break everything down in tiny little baby steps to show you how to take a large, uninterrupted picture of your avatar using the PrtScrn button, as well as how to save it to your desktop and upload it to an image hosting site. Shall we begin? Step 1 - Opening window/adjusting background: You open the 3D window as usual with the 3D window button (located on the bottom of your buddy list.) A window containing your avatar should pop up with a white background. If for some reason the background isn't white, you should click on your inventory tab on your buddy list, then choose Scenes to find and take off any scenes you may have loaded. ![]() Step 2 - Gray Shadow/Ctrl+T: After you put on the desired apparel on (Inventory tab - Clothes), move your avatar back a little bit by dragging on it. We want to get rid of that gray shadow at your avatar's feet (if you're doing a full body shot) so we're going to click on the little button that looks like this: which is around your avatars lower legs/feet to the right. Do it enough times (2) to get that shadow out of your view. If you can't see the little button, move your avatar back a bit more.Next, we're going to make some adjustments to the box, because the bigger your avatar's picture the better. Let's start by getting rid of those pesky buttons at the bottom that tend to block your view, and we do this by pressing Ctrl and T at the same time on your keyboard, and voila! gone. You may have a little green bubble with a weird symbol in it, so just press enter and drag the bubble to the top of the screen so only the tail of it shows. Step 3 - Stretching/Centering: Time to stretch the window to give your avatar some room. Drag your window all the way to the top of your screen so it lines up. See that little silver lined tab in the right bottom corner? Click and drag it down as far as you can on your screen, just make sure it doesn't go under the toolbar or out of sight, because it's hard to get it back and you'd have to close the window and start over. If the avatar needs a little room on the sides, pull it to the right a bit too. Make sure the hiding bubble doesn't overlap onto your avatar. Now onto centering your avatar. It's still kinda far back, but we're going to bring it closer in a minute, first we want to get it in the middle of the window. Right click and drag on him/her or you can tap the up/down/left/right arrows on your keyboard until (s)he's pretty much in the middle. Then drag on your avatar to bring it closer into view, turn it from side to side if you want to, get him/her ready for the pose you want. Continue to right click and drag for centering adjustments. For my example I'm going to do a full body shot, so I'm going to line up my avatar enough that she fits just right and doesn't get any body parts cut off from view in the process. Move your mouse off of the window so (s)he doesn't stay highlighted. ![]() Step 4 - The Big PrintScreen!: Now, this is where the PrintScreen part comes in. So yeah... your avatar's looking all around while your hands are resting over Alt and the PrntScrn/SysRq button (located a space over from F12 at the top) just waiting for her/him to smile again or look this way so you can get the perfect picture... so you hope. It takes practice, trust me, but when (s)he comes around again, tap those 2 buttons at the same time and a screenshot of your 3D window is taken. We'll find out how it turned out in the next step. ZOMG! WE'RE ALMOST DONE! Step 5 - Pasting/Cropping/Saving: Minimize your 3D window. Okay then, assuming we all have Microsoft Paint on our computers (on Windows: Start - All Programs - Accessories - Paint) we're going to open it up: ![]() And it looks a little something like this. Then we press Edit on the toolbar - Paste. The screenshot of the 3D window should be there, and if you see a huge picture of everything else on your screen as well, don't panic, you just didn't press Alt and PrntScrn at the same time, but that can be fixed by a little bit of cropping. If not, you're ready to save. Don't like how your picture turned out? Repeat Step 4 - PrintScreen. Cropping. We're going to pretend that the BIG PICTURE of everything else did show up instead of just your little 3D window, so we're going to crop most of that out. See that dotted line rectangle tool? Click on it so the dotted lines around your picture disappear. Then in the center on each corner of your picture you should see a very tiny little dot, you can see them in the picture above. Find the one on the bottom right corner and hover over it so the 2-sided arrow comes up, then, just like we did with our 3D window, drag it toward the edge of your picture as close to it as you can. All the other stuff should be mostly gone and you're ready to save. ![]() Saving. Click File on the toolbar - Save As. Under the text box File Name give your picture a simple name. On the left side there should be a button to the side that says Desktop, so we're going to click that so we can save it to our desktop. Save as Type should say BITMAP, NOT JPEG! You can save it anywhere you want, just remember where you put it! You have now officially taken and saved your first picture. :) I'm pretty sure most of you know how to do the rest, so scroll to the bottom to send me a message with your links. Step 6 - Uploading: In order for others to get to your picture (most importantly me) you have to upload it to an image hosting site. We're going to use ImageShack, so click here to upload your picture. ![]() Here is the upload form we'll be using. Click the Browse button, go to your Desktop (or wherever you chose to save your picture) and click on your picture's name. Then when you see the words in the upload form, you press the button and the picture will upload.Wait for the page to load, then highlight and copy the Direct Link code shown here: ![]() DONE UPLOADING! Now all you have to do is click here to paste the link in this message box to me, repeat Steps 4 through 6 for a few more pics, click send and you're finished! Thank you for using my tutorial, I hope it helped, and I'll be very happy to get such lovely detailed pictures of your avatar to work with. Any questions you have can be included in your message. See you when I'm done with your order! DeadpanDeity |
