The
unofficial System of a Down chat is
the place
to meet some of the fans. Even though
SoaD is not always on topic most
visitors love System. See the
System of a Down links for a list of recommended
related links.
If nobody is in just stay for a while. People come and go often. If everybody leaves after 2 minutes nobody
ever meets others. Just hang around.
If people are in but don't respond immediately to your "hi" please be patient. Maybe they are busy or talking privately
with someone else.
If you log in to the chat please enter a nick name. Most
people don't like anonymous "Guests". If you plan to come in often please
register your nick. This also prevents
others from acting like you by "borrowing" your nick.
Log in using "safe mode" if you are kicked out of the chat very often.
Make sure you read the Frequently Asked Questions too.
Update
The System of a Down chat has been enhanced to resemble the old "Sony" chat as much as possible. We are
also trying to get as much people who visited the "Sony" chat as possible.
Quick Chat Guide
- Action
- Use /me action to show an "action". Example /me grabs a drink which appears
as <yournick grabs a drink>.
- Changing your nick
- Type /nick newnick to change your nick. Example: /nick Serj.
- Changing the color
- Type /color colorcode to change your color. Example: /color #ff0000 which
changes the color of your text to red.
The command /color without a code gives your current color code.
See Color Palette Map or
Color Match 5K
for color codes. The latter only works with Internet Explorer.
- Sending a private message
- Just click on the nick of the person you want to send the message to. The text /msg nick
is inserted into the message input field. You can also type /msg nick or /t nick.
Example: /t Daron Hi, how are you sends "Hi, how are you" to Daron. You don't have to
type the full nick. The first part of the nick that makes it unique is enough. Another way to send
a private message is by clicking on the nick in the user list which gives a separate message input
field. If you want to talk private with someone for a long time create a room.
- Directing a message to someone
- If you want to direct a message to someone in public put the @ sign in front of the nick or add a semi colon
after the nick. A part of the nick is sufficient as long as it is unique.
Example: @Daron no way! which shows up as: YourNick (to Daron): no way!.
This is not a private message, everybody in the room can read this message.
- Ignoring people
- When someone bothers you too much you can put him or her on ignore. Type /ignore Shavo to ignore
Shavo. You can remove Shavo off the ignore list with: /unignore Shavo
- Smileys
- You can turn the smileys off with: /smileys off. To turn smileys back on use: /smileys on.
See the
Summary of commands for a complete list.
If you want to privately with someone the best way to do this is by creating a room. Click on "Room list" at the
bottom of the chat. Select the option "Create new room". Give the room a name and make sure you make it private
by changing the Accessibility to
private. Save the room.
You automatically are moved to the new room. You can invite someone to your private room using /invite nick.
For example to invite Daron use:/invite Daron.
Common newbie pitfalls
Some questions you really should never ask and things you better not do to often.
- Does System of a Down visit the chat?
- This question immediately qualifies you as a newbie. First,
SoaD chat is unofficial but
even in the official chat it was considered never ever to happen. Assume that they have
better things to do than hang out in a chat room.
- Who Loves System?
- Most people in the chat like System of a Down a lot. The few who don't like their music
love to hang around with the people who do or are close friends with some of the chatters.
- How can I contact System of a Down?
- The official System of a Down site might
answer this question. We don't have the e-mail address of Serj or the phone number of Daron.
- Smileys
- Don't overuse the smileys. This will annoy some of the people big time and they might
put you on ignore.
- Yelling
- When you type in ALL CAPS it is considered yelling. In combination with many exclamation
marks it will annoy most other chatters.
