Here is a small (12" x 12") study of a saguaro I shot a photo of at the Superstition Mountains (near Phoenix). It was fun doing the detail; of all the many saguaro cacti I've painted this is the most detailed.

Well, I got another commission from the same guys who requested the Beechcraft painting in December. Looks like I have some regular customers! This was created as a birthday present for their friend Mike, who completed the Ironman Triathlon in Tempe. I have so much respect for athletic people! This was an interesting experiment, too; while 90 percent of the work is painted, I knew in order to have all the names of the team members I'd have to print them out and paste them to the work. So in order to kind of give the whole piece a "mixed media" feel to it I printed out all the logos (Ford, Janus, etc.) and pasted them into the painting. They ended up blending quite nicely, but it's not something I'm going to make a habit of.

I just finished my new commissioned piece, "Beechcraft Premiere I". It was done for two pilots to give to the owner of the plane for a Christmas gift! You can see a larger version  here.

How many of us have a beautiful photo -- it might be a landscape, or a lovely little chapel on an out-of-the-way road - that we've taken and said later, "This picture would make a great painting!" Many artists work from photography, but Dave specializes in a realistic technique in acrylics that he has continued honing and improving for 30 years. He is willing to work with you on creating an original painting or mural from your favorite photo that will last for many years, or will provide subject matter of his own for you to look at.
