The word transgender, for the purposes of this article, is an umbrella term that can include transmen and transwomen, who may identify themselves as transgender, transsexual, genderqueer, androgynous, cross-dressers, transvestites, drag queens, drag kings or those intersexual (some prefer hermaphroditic) people whose gender identity differs from the gender they were assigned; or people who use similar terms to describe themselves.
