Antonieta Gonzalez Collins (born in 1985) is a Mexican football (soccer) player who is the daughter of the well known television reporter Maria Antonieta Collins. Antonieta Gonzalez Collins became known to the Hispanic public in the United States, and to readers in Latin America, when she revealed, in her mother's book titled "Cuando el Monstruo Despierta" ("When the Monster Awakes") that she had been a victim of domestic violence and psychological abuse by a former boyfriend.
Antonieta Gonzalez Collins spent the early part of her childhood in San Diego, California, where she, in her own words, experienced the life of a celebrity's child because her mother was already a local television news reporter and would buy her anything she wanted.
In 1992, her mother was called up by Univision to become a head reporter on their national news show, so Gonzalez Collins moved to Miami, Florida, where her life as a celebrity's child intensified, as she spent most of her afternoons at the television channel's studio, and she met such famous people as Jorge Ramos and many others. Gonzalez Collins felt scared that he would kill himself if she left him, and she still felt love for him. So, even as she loved her family dearly (according to what she wrote in the book), she began to slowly pull away from them and from her friends. One of her aunts, identified as "aunt Yuyita", started noticing the changes quicker than anyone. Another person who noticed the changes was her stepfather, who also loved her like a daughter. But her aunt "Yuyita" confronted her, and Gonzalez Collins confessed her situation to her aunt. Soon after, her mother and her stepfather also knew.

And so, about six months before she turned 18, she was sent, with a scholarship, to an also unnamed university in Ohio. The college she studies at was not identified, for her own protection. At first, she wrote, it was painful to live in Ohio: she had never before lived in a place as cold as that state, there were few people who spoke Spanish (she speaks English fluently, but she enjoys friends that speak Spanish), and, most of all, she still felt some love for her boyfriend back in Miami, as well as fear that he might have actually committed suicide.
Gonzalez Collins felt sad being in Ohio at first, but, eventually, she began to get used to living there. Most importantly, she says, she began to think less of her boyfriend in Miami.
According to her, in Ohio she learned that women shouldn't be mentally dominated by a man, and that women can be auto-sufficient. She met a new guy, named "Bruce" in the book, who plays American football for the university she attends, and, as she began to learn about his sport more, she began to fall in love again. Gonzalez Collins actually was able to make one of her dreams become a reality, when she was selected as a member of the under-21 Mexican women's national football team, which basically means that she is only a step away from joining the women's national team and compete in such important tournaments as the World Cup. When she was elected to play for that team, her mother, with whom she keep a very close relationship, told her that "(you) have achieved one of your dreams, wearing the (uniform) of your country".
Gonzalez Collins and her boyfriend, "Bruce", are still dating, with plans for a possible marriage in the future.
