Sue Andrews

It is with great sadness to inform members that Sue Andrews, wife of Terry Andrews, passed away this morning

Not only was Sue a devoted wife and mother, she was a fine darts player in her own right, having represented Middlesex County some 79 times, 12 times for A team & 67 for B team (Ranked 13 in the counties all time appearances list), winning 39 times with a (49%) win rate

The HDDA sends their deepest condolences to Terry and all of his family and friends, who are in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time

The Chiswick Club Society and the HDDA have negotiated a free membership for all HDDA dart players

Details and forms will be available behind the bar in the New Year

David Dugan Update

David has now been discharged from Charing Cross Hospital and has been placed in a care home by his family so he can be well cared for.  He is settling in well apparently after speaking to a member of the nursing team there, and I am planning on visiting him later this week.

The name & address of the care home is written below.

Vicarage Farm Care Home
139 Vicarage Farm Road,
Hounslow,
Middlesex,
TW5 0AA
Tel: 020 8577 4000

It has been recommended by the care home that any visitors should go after 2 pm to avoid the scheduled meal times. I will pass on the best wishes of those who I have spoken to since the presentation night to him on my visit.

Thanks again for all your kind thoughts on his behalf,
John "GADGET" Bryant.

CROSS EYED KEYS

The Cross Eyed Keys have unfortunately had to pull their team out from Division 2 with immediate effect. Due to not being able to field a full 6 players each week, and in an effort to be fair to the other teams in the division for the remainder of the season, feel the best solution was to withdraw now

All the Cross Keys fixtures have been nulled and void

The results & tables have been updated and they now reflect the current positions as of today 6th September

BLIND PAIRS

Wayne Lamotte & Peter Lovell are the Winners of the Blind Pairs 2014 competition

Congratulations to Pete & Wayne who beat Nick Patel & Scott Cannon in the final 2 - 0. Pete was on top form in the final

Well played to Nick  & Scott  for reaching the final and getting the runners up spot

The star of the night had to be Louise O’Sullivan with her 94 finish in her first match, followed up with a 15 and double 15 in the next. Well played Louise!

CAPS n SECS

Jason Clark and Seamus Gregory are the winners of the Captains & Secretaries Competition 2014

Congratulations to Jason and Seamus on winning the competition

In a change of format from previous years, the teams were drawn into 2 groups with each team playing everyone in their group. The winners of Group A played the Runners Up from Group B in the 1st semi-final, and the winners of Group B played the Runners Up from Group A in the 2nd semi-final. In the final the Stewart Arms played Chiswick Society Club B and won 3 - 0

Well played Lins Wright & Tony Fellows for reaching the final and claiming runners up spot

Joint 3rd place was Jay Oliver & Gerard Loret from Hammersmith Club, and Nick Patel & Steve Cleary from Chiswick Memorial A

A special thank you to Gadget for coming up with the idea of last nights competition format which was liked by all

CHANGE OF FORMAT FOR THIS YEARS CAPTAINS & SECRETARIES COMPETITION

Previous years format has been Captain v Captain 501 best of three legs, then Secretary v Secretary best of three legs and if level, a decider Captain/Secretary v Captain/Secretary 501 single leg to see who goes through in a straight Knockout competition

To make it worthwhile attending and getting more games for everyone, this years format will be as below:

• Depending on the number of teams that enter the competition, there will be 2 groups randomly drawn (example 10 teams 2 groups of 5) or (8 teams 2 groups of 4)

• A Round Robin format will be used and all teams will play each other within their group, with the winners of each group progressing to a "Final" against the winners of the other group

• If two teams are level on points, then it will be decided by the number of legs won. If still level it will be decided by the result of the head-to-head match between the 2 teams concerned

• All group matches will be best of 3 legs 501. Captain/Secretary v Captain/Secretary

• Final and 3rd/4th matches will be best of five legs 501

• Should there be an odd number of teams that enter the competition, a bye may have to be used or if there is a poor turnout "hopefully not" then it will be 1 group all playing each other with the top two playing each other in the final and the 3rd/4th place teams playing each other for third and fourth place medals match

This years format will require "All players taking part to mark/chalk at least one complete match" on the night. If you are not confident of chalking, then the players involved in the match will be asked to help you chalk throughout the match. Should you not be willing to accept this help by refusing, then you will possibly face a ban from entering any competitions next season. But by agreeing to accept the help given, it should help you gain confidence for any future competitions that the league run for your benefit

THREE'S COMPETITION

Stewart Arms are the Winners of the Threes Competition 2014

Congratulations to Jason Clark, Seamus Gregory, Graham Inniss and Mark Williams who beat the Chiswick Society Club B 'B' in the final 3-1

DIVISION ONE SINGLES/PAIRS LEAGUE

Over the Summer season, there will be a trial run of submitting all the Singles & Pairs matches with results so they can be entered into their own 'league' tables, this is designed to give a separate competition whilst playing league matches and to give any players interested their performance stats for the season

There are no set rules except an additional match sheet with the matches & results signed by both captains or secretaries be sent to me after each league match. A photo text or WhatsApp image is absolutely fine, I just need to be able to read the information..... so no drunken blurred photos please!!! Mentioning no names but :) :)

This is only a trial and small prizes will be given at presentation night. The winner will be determined on best results. All each Home captain/secretary has to do is write the players names in the boxes the same as the draw on the additional match sheet with result and we will do the rest - rules are simple, if you dont send them in you can't get them placed onto the league which also lets down all players from both teams

It does not matter how singles or pairs games each player plays during the season, and there is a winning percentage column added on the league table for each player to be able to judge their own performances from the number of games they play. You can play with different partners for the pairs and do not have to play with the same. For each win, each singles and pairs winners will be awarded 2 points in the respective tables

As members will appreciate, this can take a bit of work each week to keep up-to-date with all the information, so for the Summer season this will be only be for division one teams so I can judge in reality how much work this will take (and match sheets being sent) and if we can implement this to be a regular feature for each season. If so, then division two teams will be invited to have their own league tables for the Winter season if they so wish

I have published this weeks first set of results & tables onto the website which can be found either from the 'SUMMER LEAGUE' menu at the top or from the website sidebar (Direct links also below)

The additional match sheet required to be filled out can be found either by clicking on the photo icon below or on the Print page located on the website sidebar

24-HOUR NOTICE CANCELLATION

It has been brought to our attention of the rules regarding the cancellation of matches. Teams unable to fulfill a fixture must do so with a minimum of 24 hours notice otherwise face forfeiting the match

The rules have been amended accordingly

14. If a team cannot or is unable to fulfill a fixture they must notify either the Captain or Secretary of the opposition whether at home or away with a minimum of 24 hours notice. This provides time for the cancellation of catering, transport and sundries. Failure to provide a minimum of 24 hours notice results in the forfeit of the match

Teams are reminded that the match can still be played with only 4 players

13.   Teams with less than four players forfeit the match, unless the match can be re-arranged in one of the designated re-arrange weeks

After 126 years, the print edition of the Chronicle sadly bit the dust last Friday. The Chronicle have been a long & great supporter of darts and the HDDA over the years, which all in the HDDA thank them for

At the moment there is a will to continue the paper online, it is the only West London media coverage at present for all local West London news. To help keep the paper going, all HDDA members and their friends & family would be helping out enormously by visiting the online edition and help keep our West London media alive. I have put links on the side bar of the website to access the website at any time and on the logo above

Below is a link to the latest darts news.....The Wrighting "was" on the wall after my 14 darter  :)

DIVISION 1 & 2 SINGLES COMPS

Over the past few committee meetings and the AGM, members and the committee have been discussing the running of the competition nights, so to make it not only more enjoyable for all but to also try and get everyone playing more darts

This involves ALL members on the night to co-operate with their part in keeping the competition night running smoothly, especially when it is their turn to chalk games which has been a contentious issue for everyone. When a member is scheduled to chalk a game and is not ready, this slows down the night and is not fair to the players waiting to start their game. It has been decided and all agreed upon that the following changes to competition nights, starting with the Division 1 & 2 Singles over the next weeks

The  Division 1 & 2 Singles competitions will be played in a "Double Elimination" format, which means for those unsure how this works is that all first time losers will be re-entered into a 3rd / 4th place knock out. Trophies will be awarded for 3rd & 4th places. Because this will create more matches on the night, it will mean an earlier start of the competition will be needed, and a slight increase in entry fee to cover the costs of the extra trophies

Registration is by 8:15 pm. (Please register on arrival)
Draw will be made at 8:20pm
Competition starts at 8:30pm Sharp

Entry Fee £1.50

Voluntary chalkers for the 1st matches will be required

All losers in any match must stay at the board on which they lost and chalk the next match up on the same board, whilst the winner reports the match result to Gadget. With a double elimination competition running it is important to keep matches going

No "Smoke Breaks" immediately after a loss, so the next match can start straight away without delay. As agreed at the AGM, anyone who refuses to chalk will be refused entry in the same competition next year, so if a member has any problems then they should arrange for someone who is willing to chalk on their behalf on the night

The committee hopes all members take the changes to competition nights in the spirit it is intended in trying to make the nights run smoothly for all,  and all members can help to make these a great success

Phil has been playing in our league for many years for The Elm and was very much loved by everyone that knew him.
