Moonlit Midnight

This is one of those classics, a vampire fic. I've had this idea for over three years and have managed to make sense of most of the storyline I want to include. It's probably a bit clishé, but it's also one of my first story ideas so I'm fond of it and would like to finish it one day. In this scene Yami shows Yugi his home.(

(Warning: OLD text = BAD language!)

It was unlike anything Yugi had ever seen before. It was like he had stepped into a parallel world the moment he had passed through the doorway with Yami. An enormous cave opened up before him and he and Yami were standing on a platform that was only a few metres below the ceiling of the cavern. On the same level with the two teens were the tops of tall towers, towers that were attached to an enormous castle.

The ceiling of the cavern was covered in something that emitted a soft glow. Yugi did not think they ran with electricity and wondered what the things were. The light revealed that the castle had walls made of dark stone, almost as dark as pure black. It was the same color that the walls of the cave had, apparently the stones gotten from digging the cavern had been used to build the incredible establishment that stood before and below the two viewers.

The castle did not have walls surrounding it, nor was it one of those slim and tall castles that reminded Yugi of churches. It had not been built in western style at all, but resembled the old Japanese castles, except for the detail of being entirely made of stone. It created an impression of something completely out of this world, something not meant for the eyes of mortals at all.

“So this is the Inner Sanctuary”, Yugi breathed, his voice silent from awe. “It’s a gigantic castle.”

“It looks slightly familiar from the outside but the inside had been built rather differently in comparison to its models”, Yami explained in a normal volume of voice. “The inside is rather modern. We even have electricity and running water. It’s like a modern hotel with the outward appearance of an ancient castle. The inner hallways are exactly like something you would see inside of a hotel. Even though we are considered dead we don’t like to live with bare walls.” Yami then reached out to grab Yugi’s hand once more. “Come. I wish to show you more of its magnificence.”

When Yami started to lead Yugi towards a staircase Yugi started to have doubts. He carefully spoke out: “Yami, we aren’t really going to walk the whole way down, are we?”

The vampire stopped in his steps and turned to look at Yugi before answering: “Well, we don’t have to if you don’t want to.” Yami glanced over to the castle and then the staircase before looking at Yugi again. “I could carry you over to the castle. I’m able to pass the distance in a flash.”

“Okay, then”, Yugi said with a nod. “Lets do it your way.” Right after Yugi had spoken those words Yami released Yugi’s hand and wrapped his arms around the smaller body. He pulled Yugi against himself and instructed: “Hang on.” Yugi immediately threw his arms around the vampire’s neck and then Yami dropped them both off the ledge.

Yugi screamed louder than he could remember ever screaming before. He clutched onto Yami with all of his strength as the air current clung to his clothes. Suddenly he felt like the air grabbed a hold of his clothing and immediately afterwards he was not falling anymore.

Glancing around him frantically Yugi noticed that he and Yami were hovering mid-air without any outside assistance. The small human immediately realized that this was Yami’s work, caused by the vampire’s magic. I felt like Yami had somehow managed to convince the air itself to keep them from falling. The air seemed to start pulling on Yugi’s clothes and then the duo was hovering to the direction the wind was taking them to. The pace was slow at first but increased until it could be called actual flying. Yugi did not dare to loosen his hold around Yami’s shoulders in fear of the spell then losing effect and hung on until he could feel the ground beneath his feet.

They were now standing in the front of the castle. The double doors rose high over the duo’s heads and Yugi was more certain than ever that the building would not have come to existence without the use of a lot of magic.

“After this the place will look a lot different”, Yami commented to Yugi and the boy looked more closely at the huge doors. The both bore a symbol on them: a circle with a triangle inside of it. Inside the triangle was a carving of an eye. It seemed to look right at Yugi and in the light of all the other things Yugi had felt and seen that night, the small boy did not doubt the eye’s ability to see him one bit.

“The Inner Sanctuary is the most recent haven built for our kind”, Yami spoke, sounding an awfully lot like a tour guide of sorts. “This place carries on the tradition of the Inner Temple and the Inner City, so its mark is a mix of the two. The eye is the symbol of the Inner Temple, whereas the circle comes from the symbol of Inner City. The triangle symbolizes the trinity of the three Inners, the three greatest secret societies.”

“Amazing…” Yugi whispered as he eyed the symbol with a new kind of respect. He had never thought vampires would have such fascinating history, he had not even believed they existed before that werewolf had attacked him.

“Come now”, Yami spoke, grasping Yugi’s hand once more. The vampire seemed to have some sort of a fascination with holding Yugi’s hand but the human did not comment on it. “I’ll take you inside.” Yami stepped closer to the doors and pressed his palm against the wooden surface of one of the doors. The doors seemed to be the only thing not made out of stone on the outside of the castle.

The doors started to open, slowly. As soon as the crack between the doors was large enough for them to fit through Yami entered, pulling Yugi in after him.
